RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Monster Stomp will be back.

Fiends of the Festhaus will be making a return to BGW, nurses and all.

There will also be a live show in the Globe this year.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

How much good news can you post in one night? I hope you stick around...

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Yay, I loved that show and was really dissapointed when they took it away, but know I'm excited.

I think that if they put alot of effort in it this year and employ people who actually love to scare people than this year could be the best year.

The show in Globe do you think its gonna be like rockin Eve's countdown like two years ago or do you think its gonna be something intirally different? I hope so.

Fiends in das Festhaus! Great news! Let me know when clowns and train are back!

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

My two cents on Howl-O-Scream 2011.

Two begin, I want to tackle the biggest issue that we have been debating since last year's "The Scare is Everywhere" vs. KIDsiderate.

I think with proper planning, well designed propaganda, and visible sign-age, we can alleviate this problem. First, I would make everything from Ireland to Sesame Street Forest of Fun to Aquitaine(Germany) an all day, all night KIDsiderate environment. No scare zones for the parents to dodge through for their kids to get to KIDsiderate attractions. No scare actors allowed in these environments, period. Any children's rides in the scare areas would shut down at 6pm and all children's rides in the KIDsiderate areas would remain open to park closure. Generic Children's Halloween themes would preeminent in these areas. I hope many of y'all agree with this.

Then, Wildlife Reserve to Alpinegiest/Ocktoberfest to Escape From Pompeii would be the 'Scare areas" To differentiate between SZ and KIDS would need unmistakable sign-age. My idea would be to use existing archways and using temporary covering to transform them into "Portals." The area next to SSFOF would require the construction of a temparary archway or thematic pillars to serve the same purpose.

Now on to Houses:

I would keep Catacombs, Cursed. If the Festhaus Park houses are used... new ideas are necessary. I'm not much for "details" so...

Here a map...

Blu is KIDsiderate, Red is SZ, and the yellow lines are the "portals"

I say cut Aquitaine out of the "KIDsiderate" section. No one really wants to walk across that bridge and you'd probably end up with a bunch of parents dragging their kids through the scarezones. Also, doesn't Land of the Dragons close after dark anyway?

Exactly! I totally miss the clowns in Festa and the train (especially Sleepy Hollow). Even bringing back "Jack's pumpkin Express" would be nice!

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Good Idea, but I say cut Scotland out and Ireland of the "Kidsiderate zone" and treat them as a buffer, slightly scary, but not too scary, prety much how it has been in the past... With a clear warning that once you past through those areas all hell will break loose.

The scarezones should have "gateways" and facades, much like they do at other parks. Also, I'd like to see some SERIOUS Scarezones... I'm talking Universal studios style, and before you yell "budget", what they do with the scarezones shouldnt be too much for any park to handle really. They do have quite a few large props that I know some parks might not be able to do, along with the fire effects that they are famous for, but the LIGHTING and the narrowing of the path and the direct impact of having props on the path is how universal creates scary scarezones, throw in a few actors with a nice theme and presto!... Heck, if they took some of those train decorations and plopped them down in the path with some special lighting and fog they'd have effective scarezones.

budget-wise, they should allow volunteers to work in the scotland/ireland/less scarier areas...they could easily save a BUNCH of money that could be used elsewhere to make scarier...

In Festhaus Park I say cut the 3 houses and make a really long one that weaves throughout the area, in the woods, and through the buildings...they could make one of the buildings "abandoned" and open up the floor plan and (keeping with budget issues) hit up local thrift shops to get cheap furniture, etc. Kind of like Alone at BGT...they could even charge people to go through and make it really scary.

Michael, I talked to someone high up in the entertainment department (sorry, don't remember his name) last year about something similar to Alone and he seemed pretty impressed and promised to pass my concept along to the powers that be. We'll see...

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I hope so, that would be amazing. Thanks for the info Swift.

Phil Raybourn said they were watching the development and reception of Tampa's Alone very closely looking at the possibilty of bringing something similar to BGE...
