RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Rail subways date back to the late 19th century (Jack the Ripper era), so it doesn't necessarily have to look that modern. But yeah, it would make Catacombs seem redundant.

Very true, but my gut is saying it's going to seem post-apocalyptic, especially when nestled into Pompeii...

I'm trying to be an optimist :p But you're probably closer.

I really REALLY hope that maybe the source saw some sort of documentation that was actually referring to Tampa, not 'our' park...

Maybe we should just focus on 13: Your Number's Up... :p

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I honestly don't care that they're not sticking to their theme with this one, I'm excited to see something completely different being done this time- it's exciting! :)

I totally agree. It's about time for something new! Isn't anyone else sick of the witches, werewolves, and ghosts? Hopefully this year's HOS will not only excite past fans, but bring in new ones!

New things + hype/speculation about the new things = higher attendance which multiplies into more money! Isn't that the bottom line anyway?
All I can say is that i'm so so excited for all of the reveals and actually going to HOS this year.

Ehhh, I personally never liked Catacombs anyway. It had major flaws.
I'm sure they'll put something there, but hopefully a different maze.

That is clearly opinion obviously. Catacombs was voted number one every night last year outside of one night when it had its top performers perform at another maze.

Just thought of something else: Wouldn't this make Catacombs a bit redundant? Catacombs are basically the same as subway tunnels when you think about it. Could we see Catacombs be replaced after all?

I thought catacombs was the best maze they had last year, thats just my opinion

I cannot believe we finally get a fresh idea for pompeii and all of you are whining especially since this could quite possibly be the best Maze they have EVER done! I'm just hoping this is a reality because it just sounds soooo good. I'm tired of them not being modern in at least one house its getting old... ugh my hands are trembling I'm SO excited!!!!

I appreciate your passion, truly... But we're all voicing our opinions, as that's what forums are for; I'd appreciate it if you didn't paint it as "whining."

Personally, I go to Busch Gardens to be transported regardless of the season. If I'm in the mood for something more modern, I go to a different park... I'm all for "fresh ideas" as long as they fit the atmosphere. Otherwise, to me, it's the flaw that pulls you out of the immersive experience.

At this point, based on what we officially know from the park, I like what I'm seeing. Until we see it on the website, I'm considering it hearsay and rumor...

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Seriously... Goblins, Witches, Werewolves, Ghosts, Pirates and other old stuff is the only thing Busch should do around Howl-O-Scream. If they dont do the same things over and over again, It's not gonna feel like Busch because they will be doing something modern for A haunted house and all their houses should explore the same themes from the same time periods that share the same architecture. This is all they should do because it WAS called "The Old Country" at one point in time. If they break this theme for 2 or 3 months then Busch wont feel like Busch anymore and I'll be sad...

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Well, BGW really isn't the "Olde Country" anymore. I'm OK with a modern themed house. I'm just tired of the same Revenge of Pompeii. BGW enthusiasts like us will be irked by the mistheming of it, but the GP will enjoy it thoroughly. Youhow wasn't one of your complaints that there were no stories for the houses? It looks like (so far) that may not be the case this year.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

ok hb I overreacted but I still believe that no one should be upset about this because however unlikely it is who knows if there is a zombie infested subway system under pompeii or not? I surely will never know :)

I'm not upset, I'm just sharing my thoughts... chill. :)

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

How can they tie Pompeii (and old ruin town) to a subway station inside? I would rather have a re done scary mummy house that fits theme. Didn't someone post earlier that the house will look like a mummie museum? They must have been told wrong because a subway and a museum aren't the same thing.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I've lived in Williamsburg for over 5 years now, and have gone pretty much every weekend to HOS since, and I'm excited for the change! It has nothing to do if you're a tourist or a BGW enthusiast or not. It just depends on your taste.

The more I think about it, the stranger it seems. They're calling in an outside company to basically make a modern version of Catacombs. Seriously, what can you do with the subway theme that you can't already to with the catacombs theme? I just don't understand it.

A well made house with a well thought out story will always be scary regardless of the theme. A theme from midevel times can be just as scary as a modern one if done correctly. The problems, the park has never done it correctly. It seems like they're just ripping pages out of Tampa's playbook instead of innovating themselves. They'll get a scary house, but the theme will be lost.

I'm going to have to disagree. With having a different company setting up I believe we will see many new things that we wouldn't see if BGW was doing this. With BGW habits are made and stay around forever when it comes to how these things are set up. Really in my opinion all the houses can seem the same since they are done by the same people so having someone new freshens things up a bit. Plus a modern subway theme IMO is vastly different from Catacombs.
