Especially because there's so much pressure to make sure Winterfest is a success this year

If these rumors are in fact true, I believe that they are very smart moves for the park in terms of money. The Yard will most likely use the prison towers in front of Lockdown, which I believe has been in the plans since the maze first opened. Will they be moved? I kinda hope so; that area could get really packed and there needs to be some kind of distinction between the two attractions. I haven’t heard anything about changes to Lockdown, but a decision to make it more gory would be a smart move to, like I said, distinguish the two prison attractions.

I’m VERY excited for No Vacancy: Condemned. While I’m saddened we’ll probably no longer be able to see the immaculate detail from the original maze, I’ve seen a lot of hype for an idea such as this one. Ironically, last season I asked a lot of my friends if they would want to see something like Trick or Treat: Lights out at KD and they all said they would love it and they hope the flashlights are weak... LOL! While I haven’t heard anything concrete about this, I’m expecting things to be moved around a lot; if the park wants to make this really scary they need to place us in a layout that is unfamiliar and we have to find our way out.

I anticipate both of these changes wouldn’t cost too much for the park, which is good for the park considering the big dent in funds that I’m sure WinterFest will bring.

I attended Haunt probably 8 times last season, can't remember seeing "The Coven" at all.

The Coven was the group of witches that danced on the stage after the Overlord’s Resurrection! They were new for 2017 and they were the replacement for “The Mob.”

I remember seeing The Coven dance Show in the plaza in front of Wind Seeker and Twisted Timbers. I think that they were just a roaming dance group, but I'm not sure. It makes sense for them to be in candy apple grove due to Trick or Treat.

Kings Dominion Fanatics has posted a video announcing that Blood Drums will be returning to the park this season. This page usually only shares exclusive information if they have enough proof behind it to confirm it and/or they have received permission from the park to share it. Looks like they’ll be on the Grande Bandstand!

Ahh, got it - I did see that group on the stage after Overlord's - was expecting a roving group like "The Mob"... thanks

Only somewhat related to Kings Dominion's Halloween Haunt, but as of this posting, six Cedar Fair parks have announced their 2018 Haunt attraction lineups, which include California's Great America, Carowinds, Cedar Point, Dorney Park, Kings Island, and Worlds of Fun. Out of these six parks, it is interesting to see that all of these parks except for Kings Island have announced a "Condemned" or "Lights Out" (or in one case, "Blackout") version of an old attraction, which lines up with the rumors of what we are hearing may happen with The Inn at Darkside Manor: No Vacancy at Kings Dominion.

I'm expecting an announcement from KD soon enough, but I've noticed that they have usually waited until later in August to announce their stuff.

EDIT: Sunday 8/5/2018: Did not think this was worth a new post, but Valleyfair has also announced their Haunt lineup for 2018. They are turning their Zombie High into a flashlight maze, adding "In The Dark" to the classic maze. That leaves only Canada's Wonderland and Kings Dominion with no announced lineup. I am not including Knott's because they always do a large unveiling of their lineup at the end of the month (August 30th, I believe).

Canada’s Wonderland quietly put their new Haunt info on their website sometime recently, making Kings Dominion the only park outside of Knott’s Scary Farm to not formally announce their new Haunt stuff yet. I always wonder why KD waits so long to announce the stuff, especially since it seems that rumors start flying so early in the summer, at least for the past few years.

Also, if the “No Vacancy: Condemned” rumor is actually true, that means that Kings Island and Canada’s Wonderland will be the only Cedar Fair parks without a “flashlight maze” in 2018. Very interesting.

Hopefully we’re hear something official within the next week or so.

It's possible they have tried to be smart and wait for BGW's hype train to finish so they can have the last word and generate the final hype.

But more likely they haven't thought of anything like that.

I honestly never thought about that. But there’s a good chance they just quietly release it on their website without much hype like last season (which was a pity because Blood on the Bayou deserves a LOT of praise). There’s a chance that the park has already surrendered to Busch on the Halloween front and they’re just prepping to go all out in the Christmas battle this season (WinterFest has a LOT going for it and this event in particular will get a lot of attention from corporate because it is the only park debuting it this season). TBH it’s hard to beat Busch when they are celebrating their 20th year of Howl-O-Scream and KD has already made it clear that their priority will be WinterFest.

A little Haunt fun fact: As of my last visit to the park, the giant doll head that used to appear on the side of the Doll Factory building (now Blackout) is still hidden behind the climbing game next to the building. You can see it if you look close enough when you approach the little cooling fan at the entrance of Safari Village. I wonder why they haven’t removed it? The last time they pulled it up was in 2016!

It could just be that the new marketing team is still focused on BBQ and Brew Fest. They have been pushing it on social media.

That’s very possible, I have noticed that myself. Now that it’s over, maybe we’ll see an announcement this week, probably after Busch’s final Howl-O-Scream announcement tomorrow morning.

Man, KD is REALLY dragging this out, aren't they?

Today the Haunt website was updated, but not with the new stuff. The only information we have been given is that a new maze, a new scare zone, and a new show are "coming soon", which lines up with our rumors we have heard so far (btw, No Vacancy and Feary Tales are still not on the website, which means that these attractions are GONE!). The show has already been confirmed as Blood Drums, as the group's website has listed Kings Dominion as a location.

Halloween Haunt at Kings Dominion begins exactly ONE MONTH from today. While I thought we would get an announcement of the new information today, all we got was this odd teaser. Maybe the park plans to announce their 2019 attraction first before their Haunt stuff? Who knows anymore. All I know is I will be disappointed if September begins and there is still no announcement.

I just looked the site over, noticed that Lockdown is listed but so is Flight of Fear... oversight I guess.

Both (in theory) COULD be running, right? they would have to use the old "come back and get your stuff that you left in the cubbies" hallway, but if they move the queue entrance and the and the exit area near eachother, then it would work. (i'm just throwing this out there, its most likely an oversight as Jeffh said.

Running Flight of Fear during Haunt would not work because I’m pretty sure the exit area of the ride is used for backstage stuff during Haunt. That and the ride would be too noisy for the actors in Lockdown... and that maze is already a really loud one!

With that being said, I don’t think it has hit a lot of people that Twisted Timbers will not be operating during Haunt. Same reasons as above but replace Lockdown with Blood on the Bayou.

EDIT: meant to say that TT will NOT be operating during Haunt. Fixed that above.

With PrimEvil gone last season and Feary Tales gone this season, I hope the new scarezone takes over a larger portion of that whole side of the park. It's unfortunate that the Safari Village no longer has its own scarezone.
