Not to mention, if I remember correctly, they opened late as all hell. Even as someone who has historically not cared about trails/houses, Extreme was botched so badly that I couldn’t help but pay attention.

You can find a contractor to do work at any price point so if you're not willing to invest much/don't know what you're shopping for, the results can be awful. In this case though, Cedar Fair (and the merged chain last year) has demonstrated that they know how to pick high-quality contractors and are willing to invest the cash required to finance great work—hence my optimism in this case.

Just don't want people to get it in their head that contract builds are always better.

I would add that the best designed house will still fail if it isn't staffed with enough trained actors (who are given logical things to say).

Edddytainment (a theme park vlogger) posted this on his page today. I haven’t seen any other media figures share this, but I wonder if we’re going to get our Haunt lineup Monday?

🎃 SIX FLAGS IS TEASING SOMETHING WICKED… 🎃

Six Flags just sent out a VERY interesting media teaser ahead of a major Halloween announcement coming Monday, August 17… and there are a few phrases that immediately caught my attention. 👀

The subject line alone says:

“Six Flags Halloween Announcement: Something Wicked This Way Comes”

Then the email promises they’ve been “summoning the biggest, scariest and most over-the-top Halloween season in Six Flags history.” 😈

So… what are we thinking?!

🔮 MY BEST GUESSES:

* 🎃 Multiple NEW haunted attractions across the Six Flags chain
* 🎬 More major IP partnerships — especially after the HUGE Diablo announcement
* 👹 New or expanded scare zones / Fright Fest experiences
* 🎭 New entertainment or nighttime experiences
* 😈 Possibly a chain-wide Halloween initiative connecting multiple parks
* 🏚️ Or could we see certain parks getting something MUCH bigger than others?

The wording “biggest… in Six Flags history” makes this sound like more than one new maze or attraction.

And “Something Wicked This Way Comes” is an interesting choice of words too… Is that simply spooky marketing, or a clue toward what’s being announced? 👀

The BIG question I have:

👉 Is Monday’s announcement going to impact the entire Six Flags chain, or are we talking about major additions at only select parks?

We’ll find out Monday morning, and I’ll be watching that inbox! 📩🎃

Having to pay for haunt in general is pretty lame but I think its even more lame and a bunch of absolute horseshit that they can't ATLEAST give their top tier presteige members free access or atleast half off or something. It's so sad to see how insane value BG passes are vs six flags. The amount of free stuff BG gives is like triple the season pass value in the long run probably

Yea I mean i renewed yesterday to presteige but 1 free one is still lipstick on a pig for sure. All I can do is hope like hell they become free again. Sadly im sure ill end up going with my vlogger buddy and might have to pay it long before that time comes but oh well

To play devil's advocate, KD passes are laughably underpriced compared to BGW passes. A KD Prestige Pass is $229 right now while a BGW Platinum is $369. You can add all-season house access WITH FRONT OF THE LINE ACCESS to your KD Prestige and still be WELL under the price of a BGW Platinum—and that's despite the KD Prestige also getting you free drinks all year, access to more parks than the BGW Platinum, access to, on average, better parks than the BGW Platinum (I said it, sue me), and access to far easier to access parks for most people with a VA-based pass.

I hate being nickeled and dimed so I get the frustration. Six Flags needs to just put the Diamond Elite VIP back on sale (which includes haunted attraction passes every visit, includes drinks, includes four free front of the line passes every visit, includes bigger in-park discounts, etc) at some new, even higher price than Prestige. Toss that up for sale for $120 more than Prestige and I think you'd get a lot of takers and KD would STILL be under the price of a BGW Platinum despite, then, offering notably better benefits.

Oh im not complaining about about the presteige price overall. $20 a month is insane and pays for itself with the snacks from VIP lounge and drink plan. You are 1000% right about easier to access parks and better parks. Id rather drive and hit and CP and KI all day long over tampa and seaworld lol I would think most would. Four free front of the lines every visit would be crazy value. I don't think id even buy a fast lane then lol

The new shows are intriguing. I usually don’t care too much about Haunt shows, but these suggestions suggest something that’s a step above what KD has been producing for Halloween over the past few years. Skeleton Crew was a huge crowd pleaser back in the day, so that should be a hit. And it’s hard to tell from the description (and awful site formatting) but is Wake The Dead going into the KD Theater? What’s visible of the description makes it sound like a murder mystery, which could be cool. “Sink The Jerk” seems to have been attention grabber at other Cedar Fair parks too.

I was hoping for a new scare zone this year. You’d think it would be relatively inexpensive to build a new scare zone compared to a house. Even just a reskin and relocation of a zone would do something. Cleaver Brothers is literally so old that there are teenagers going to the event now who weren’t even born when it debuted.

My guess is that Wake the Dead will be in the Kings Dominion Theater. I believe it is the same show Carowinds and Cedar Point have had in the past. This show is intriguing because the show has multiple endings based on who the audience thinks did the murder.

Excited to see Heads Will Roll back. The first year that show was at KD was my favorite Haunt show of all time. It had a very large and talented cast, great song choice, and really fun lighting. The “extended” stage sections were really neat.

Wake The Dead is super interesting. Haunt theatre production?

Finally have time to sift through the new lineup. Here’s what I think:

1. I’m insanely excited for all the new shows this year. Six Flags is very clearly listening to the fans and bringing back the atmosphere that Haunt once had.

2. I’m very surprised by Heads Will Roll’s return, especially since the Overlord took back control from the Queen last season. Don’t get me wrong—I am very happy to see this amazing show return; I just thought the Overlord would have more time in the spotlight again. I wonder if the Queen is coming back this season. Supposedly the show will not be the exact same as it was in 2019 and 2021.

3. Wake the Dead has SO much potential. I really hope they can recreate the energy and excitement that surrounded the shows at Cedar Point, Carowinds, and Six Flags Great America. This show is unique because it has four endings… one for each of the murder suspects. I’d expect this show to be one people see multiple times a season, and maybe even in a night!

4. Skeleton Crew is a classic much like Cirque Imagine, and I’m glad to see it return. Sink the Jerk is also intriguing, and I wonder if they’re going to make people pay $2 to throw a ball to dunk him like they do at Canada’s Wonderland. Grouping these two together because I’m convinced that Haut Vol (the contractor that hires the Cirque performers) is in charge of these two shows.

5. As for mazes and scare zones… I’m a little disappointed that Diablo is the only maze. With Sink the Jerk taking place in Cleaver (I’m assuming this from the picture accompanying the show announcement), I hope the park decided to upgrade Cleaver’s scenic props to make it look newer.

6. I’m going to take a wild guess and be the first to speculate that Masquerade could return to the Eiffel Tower to be paired with Heads Will Roll again. I really hope I’m wrong, since I think it fits way better in the tunnel, but I have a feeling we may see this happen.

Kind of a bummer to see that Black Widow Burlesque appears to be no more. That was such a unique vibe for a haunt show. But like we're seeing with Heads Will Roll, there's always that chance it returns in some form.
