I wish I could go to KD as much as you people do. I feel stuck with BGW while you people have the time of your lives at KD. In fact I'm stuck at BGW again today.

Gosh, sounds like Haunt was acting pretty sucky last night. It seems like a lot of issues were with staffing (a recurring theme at KD), but it's disappointing to hear that many actors weren't trying. What I've always liked about Haunt is that the actors typically do more than just jump out and yell "boo." Hopefully this was just a fluke, because Haunt has much more potential than what you just described. Were your experiences with the park in general, during the day, any better?

Thanks for taking the time to write that all out; it sure sucks that you had a crappy experience. I'm curious, though, how would you compare Haunt to HOS?
My experience with the park in general was alright. I don't have too many memories of KD. (The amount of times I've been can be counted on one hand.) For the most part I had no real expectations for the regular park part. Only Haunt.

If I had to compare the two events based on what I saw last night. It was on par with HOS. The decorations were better. And when the actors were trying it was nice. However, for the most part I was left with a very similar experience as going to HoS.

Oh, it should also be noted that they also stopped MoM for a little bit, because they had a backup. which was actually nice to hear that they were stopping to let the line filter. But that was also before the picture part. (Which was rather dumb and unwanted imo.) So whether or not they were trying to space people out more in the house is a little beyond me. I do remember actually moving through MoM better than most of the houses. But that's really the only positive side to that house.

Since Joe asked, I had a better time at HOS this weekend than Haunt. HOS actually had better lighting and music than Haunt. I enjoyed a higher percentage of the HOS houses than Haunt mazes. The Terror-tories completely outperformed the Scare Zones. And lastly, there were more strollers and children at KD.

PK we should. We had a blast opening night and with the Tasty Tasty Tower.

For the record, I am not a BGW fan boy, in many ways I have ALWAYS like KD better. In fact in highschool I went to KD more the BG. Like many people I have platinum pass to both KD and BG. I end up at BG more often due to proximity and because they sell my favorite beer.

I have said before and I will say again, the 2 parks are very different. Both have warts and sunshine. I like my pets, I love them both but differently.

I understand that some people believe that I prefer BGW to KD. The simple fact is that I like Florida parks better than either. I go to KD and BGW for different reasons. I have no bias for or against either. In fact if you go back and look at my posts, I defended KD before it was trendy.

My reviews of the two Halloween events are not biased by any preconceived notions or preferences. I go to every park event hoping to enjoy myself. That said, I am not going to lie about my experiences to make a faction of this forum happy.

Let us know about Doll Factory and Outbreak. They were fantastic last weekend, and seemed not to be performing as well yesterday.

I went to Haunt on Friday, it was one of the best visits I have had at Kings Dominion.

There are a lot of events in the region this weekend and the weather was slightly damp, the park was DEAD.

We NEVER waited for a house the entire night. Even Blueridge. We were able to see every show except for the Skeletons (would not perform in the rain).

I thought the houses were great. We were with a group of 4 and were able to enter each house with just the 4 of us, meaning every time one of the couples was in the front...the other in the back. It was simply amazing.

I know how fortunate we were...it was really just an awesome time.

Either way, as a complete event I prefer Haunt over Howl-O-Scream.

I did prefer the beer selection at Busch Gardens, but that was about it.

Was also able to get 3 rides on Volcano and 5 rides on Intimidator 305.

Seems like this was just a bad weekend in general for KD. I was there Friday night, and you're probably thinking "low crowds, must have been nice"...only thing nice was the walk on for I305. All the scaractors seemed bored and didn't really try....plus some of the mazes seemed highly under staffed. Only thing I enjoyed that was Haunt related was Feary Tales. I will go back later in the season to see how things are going but overall I'm not feeling it like I was last season.

I sort of wonder if they are having a sort of second weekend malaise caused by exhaustion paired with a lack of opening-weekend adrenaline. The second weekend was always hard for me, when I was dancing. I would expect more energy from the actors next week, as they learn to pace themselves and become more comfortable with their roles.

A guy picked up his 3 year old and carried him into MoM last night.  Tony says the guy picked him up because he didn't want to go in.

I have seen far too much of that at both events, and it's downright horrible. The parents who unknowingly take their kids into the haunts are one thing (like the "They only scare teenagers!" mommy at Wendigo Woods), but the parents who force their kids into it are another. I have seen parents smack their children because they were too scared to go in. I honestly should have reported it.

Taking children into the mazes is bad enough because it bothers everyone else, but forcing them to go for you own enjoyment is terrible parenting and downright selfish. Sigh...

Maybe this is why the scare actors were hesitant to scare during the ParkFans recent visit. One too many toddlers checking out their house.
