Ok will fill you guys in what I have heard from a co-worker here at UNI has told me. The reason Hagrid's has late opening delays, is due to the Techs of the ride get there at 10pm, a lot of the first days it was 3 hours later last rides, which was making tech to rush the next day and not get checks in so ops would do either one of 2 things say hey nope we close at 10pm get out, or take time to get such tech stuff done and have a delayed opening. Plus, we know how Intamin is, and I have not been a fan of working or at an opening of an Intamin coaster, since I opened MAVERICK.

It is also not a fun time with the real bad weather, storms in mid day Orlando. I do believe both drop tracks are working now, and they are working to get all trains as needed for the ride, I believe there is 8 trains running now. I will say I had fun opening day helping to pass out water and some free Gilly water to some die hard Potter fans, I have rode 7 times & will tell you yes the sidecar is a lot better than the motorbike. I even got a roll back to valley but rolled back to the launch again. So, Hagrid's is getting there & can't wait for you guys to enjoy it.

Also, lets hope Universal lays it on Intamin to have kinks worked out for the JP-JW coaster in 2021, and I hope you all don't have a big problem with MMXX since it is an Intamin coaster with switch tracks and spikes. I think also Uni will not set opening days or grand opening days as a set day like Hagrid, but it also has to do with Hagrid being part of the J. K. Rowling Harry Potter Universe & Warner Brothers mapping out the day they announced the Grand Opening, is when Hagrid opened the Chamber of Secrets, and June 13th has something to do with something in the Forbidden Forest and Moaning Myrtle. Which I think or guess Marketing ran with to do the hype train, which also I noticed the next day there is 4 more books from J K Rowling and one is of course "A Journey Through the 16653 Care of Magical Creatures", Maybe some Potter fans can tell more, I only started reading the books, since I started down here in 2016.

But I will say and not being biased it is my favorite ride down here besides MAKO, which I love because it gives me AC vibes but closer to water

@SukaUniFl: Do you have any sense about when the ride will be operating normally? Barring of course unexpected technical issues.

I ask, because… you know… some people might be in Orlando in a few weeks…
?
I do know today people were left to que at around 930am and off the ride by noon or so.
So, I am thinking with the late or delay start the Techs are able to get whatever finished. Motor bikes were zooming around today, I think I noticed at least 3 trains zooming in different areas today at same time. Pay attention if you have the Universal Orlando App & if you have FB, and part of the UOAP page a lot of guest are posting the daily up to date messages I have noticed a lot of people are paying attention to that for how the ride is going and wait times. But, besides weather and some slight delays, its been doing good last few days.

Have your wand and spell casting up that it is running and operating normally sooner than later. Also I believe that Single rider queue is now up, and NO word of Virtual Line, which to be honest would hold up lines if your come back time was at a time during the daily Orlando rain storms. Like right now closed for weather. I enjoyed going thru the queue lots of HP Easter Eggs, as well as DD/DC and still haven't found all of the Cornish Pixies.

I wasn’t really all that into this because Ive never seen or read Harry Potter, but I just watched a pov for this and I’m not gonna lie it actually looks really fun. Still wish Dueling Dragons was there though. Also I didn’t realize Hagrid was a boy?? Whoops.

So what's going on with the attraction? Theme Park Insider has some info and theories -

The issues with this ride are deeper than what they are theorizing.

I will say this....

Universal Creative was at least a month behind in testing but decided to open the ride because they had already announced an opening date and deemed it was functional and ready enough to run.

Also, the queue still isn’t 100% complete and a few effects are still nonexistent!

??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️

To be rather honest I’m not terribly suprised with all of the issues happening with Hagrid’s at all. When Gringotts opened it had an extremely reduced capacity and the line would commonly close several hours before park closed to allow for time to work on the attraction. I think Universal sets themselves up for failure by setting opening dates too far in advance even when they know the attraction is not ready for full operation.

I still keep seeing people saying it's awesome, though, once they get to ride it. It looks fun to me. No it's not going to be super intense, but it does look fun.

@SukaUniFl: Do you have any updates for us about operations? Is it opening with the park, and how much downtime is it seeing daily? What are the lines like?

Friend told me they are overstating the line length. 3 hour stated line, waited 75 minutes. Not 100% on any downtime or how many units it was running but I've heard anywhere from 3-7 trains during operations over the last few days.

I d suggest to still get there at park opening, somedays its been about 11 ish or noon, but things are looking better and operations are up to 8 trains. I know they are still letting people queue up before it opens. I rode it the other night 2 times within an hour or so after 7pm. Plus, I will say I prefer the night ride much better now that I have ridden it at night.

So, it sounds as if we are better of waiting and hopping in line at the end of the day? Do they close the queue early?

I believe they have been closing it early, I will keep an eye and ear open when I get back from NYC on Tuesday to see how things are getting. I have even heard they were giving out secret passwords so that one person in your party could wait in the pre queue area, and then return once the main queue and ride are open and give the password to a Caretaker (TM) that way, it could keep down some of the lines.
However, if you are waiting at night and it goes down, they will give you a fancy Ruby Pass to ride the next time as a sort of Fast on. Plus, if you are waiting in the pre queue area they have free water and some entertainment especially near the old Sinbad show, but once you get in the main Queue area they will charge you for drinks, and I heard new AC vents were installed in some of the tunnel areas where it was hot.

Be wary of doing that. I say this because my friend went the other day after he got off work at 5:30 since he works near the park. When he checked the app it said 140 minute wait at that time. When he got to the entrance of IOA at 6:15 pm it had gone down to 120 minutes. He fell in line at 6:45 pm with the wait going down to 90 minutes and by 7 pm they shut the line down and he was kicked out. 7 pm with a 90 minute wait and the park closed at 10 pm that night. ??‍♂️

Did the ride go down at 7pm, when he was kicked out? Or did they just cut off the queue and let everyone else ride? Or did they shut the ride down (vice its breaking)?

They cut off the queue that was outside the entrance of the ride. It was still operating but then the app went from saying 90 minutes to “At Capacity” ?
