The hot dogs weren’t great, but in BGW’s defense, I can’t complain much about a $1 hot dog. I’m glad I managed to get my dinner at the park for $2 instead of the $20+ I could’ve spent for a marginally better quality meal elsewhere in the park. (Although I often try to eat my meals before or after my visit to the park these days.)

The only places I’ll eat food from now are Les Frites and Pretzel World. Honorable mentions of Gelato stand and Josephine’s.

Literally the worst hotdog I’ve ever seen…
I gave it a try on Sunday, and unfortunately must agree. The hot dog you get is clearly not the one in the advertising picture. They must be specially made miniature hot dogs. I've never seen ones in the store so small. It literally gets lost in the bun.

Add in the fact that there are no condiments other than ketchup and mustard packets, (no relish, which is the foundation of a good hot dog) and even for $1 each, they aren't worth eating.

The experience was remarkably like 'Battle for Eire'. Tried it once - won't do it again.

Maybe (?) fun fact. Hotdogs come in different sizes but the buns do not. Kuntzler (a Lancaster PA brand) goes by 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2. Basically the amount of a pound they are. Most places will advertise using a 1/8 size as that’s what fits in a bun. But the 1/16 is usually what gets used in the $1 dog for anyone.

But wait, Costco sells the big ones (1/4) for a $1.50!?!

Yes. And they intentionally take a loss on hotdogs. They figure you are bound to spend so much on other stuff that they will still come out ahead.

Most places that do $1 dog days do it as a way to drive revenue to F&B by either volume of dogs or the drinks and extras you will buy with it.

Hence why they impose a limit to people, they don't want you filling up on $1 dogs they want you to go around and eat other shit.

Fundamentally though, I think it rather insulting they view $1 hot dogs as a reasonable promotion to lure their valued members through the gates. The promotion quality isn't exactly proportional to the cost of being a member.

Generally it’s not about getting people in the gates. The two minor league baseball teams I was around, we often did it when F&B sales were going down.

Was there a limit to the amount of $1 dogs you could get?

To clarify some of the other responses to this question, the sign says there’s a limit of 2 hot dogs per person per transaction. You can get back in line and order more.

For what it’s worth, I also didn’t see any signage suggesting this was a member benefit and I don’t remember the cashiers checking. It seemed like it was open to anyone.
