Or they didn't want to deal with the operating costs of a crappy ride? Anyway I'm hoping for something unique. Not a flat, but not another simulator.

Well, I did some more sleuthing and I totally didn't find the parks employee newsletter on purpose.

Please note: A crane will be set up in the area of the archway leading into Ireland on Saturday from 8 a.m.
to 4 p.m. We will need to stop all traffic including foot traffic for this area during this time.

Wait a minute if Europe in the Air is still listed as a ride at the park. Then what in the hell is the crane in Ireland for ?

Thoughts?

Interesting and neat concept but the main problem I have with it is the onride view. Facing inward and being able to see everyone else on the ride would be too much of a distraction and an obstruction.

I've heard of numerous concepts regarding a EITA replacement, and when the time does come, I've found a ride system that would be really neat! Now, before I mention anything, I understand that BGW hasn't worked with Intamin in quite some time, and that the chances of BGW working with Intamin are rather small.

From Intamin:

Over Larry's dead body!

Larry Giles will need to leave BGW before a Intamin product is ever installed at BGW. I would be extremely surprised if that changes.

You beat me too it!

I just don't understand all of the hate. For me EitA isn't much worse than other simulators, and I enjoy seeing the helo shots of Europe.

Is it great? No. But which of those rides are?

It always struck me as a poor knockoff of Soarin' with surprisingly jarring movements in comparison to the soothing visuals.

I prefer simulators to tell a story or take place in a fantasy world of absurd proportions that couldn't be delivered to the guest in any other way. Simulators like The Simpsons Ride or Despicable Me Minion Mayhem at Universal Studios are fun because they involve the rider in a unique, out-of-this-world experience that would be impossible to experience with any other ride type.

I think they are all kinda meh. And I prefer Europe to California (not relevant now, I know). Of course Soarin is better and EitA is essentially a cheap knock off.

But at the end of the day, for me most simulators are varying degrees of uninteresting.

I agree with that. In many cases, simulators seem to be used simply as cheap substitutes for investing in actual, immersive scenery or ride technology.

I do hope that Battle For Eire will buck this trend, as the VR combined with motion actually designed for the video may provide a level of immersion that can only exist on this type of ride.

They did say they were going to change/renovate the ride system so having a 360 degree, beautifully designed VR ride is just the right jolt of newfound life Ireland desperately needed.
