Some of the water blaster's had black duct tape over them... while everyone else was using the working one's I ripped the tape off and put in all of my quarter's and I blasted I think 23 boats, with no problem.

Preston, the contracted company, Elaut USA are the ones that maintain those water blasters. They typically use black tape to cover the coin entrance to indicate that the machine has experienced an error. DO NOT go ripping off anything from anywhere. That is like ignoring a stop sign that doesn't have the word stop written on it. My biggest pet peeve is when a guest is not directly told something, but it is implied and they completely ignore what should be an obvious sign. This is the reason why the warning label, "Cation: Contents Hot" is now posted on every coffee cup. It really is ridiculous.

That said, just because you were able to put coins in and use the machine does not mean it is fully operational. There can be an inside malfunction that could need fixing. For example, the counter inside the machine that keeps track of the money earned. That is very important part, even though it may not affect the actual operation of the machine.

As a reminder, no one should be using their own tape to block over those machines. That equates to the park not making money and I am fairly certain if you are repeatedly caught doing that, or even if it was just one time, you may receive a trespassing warning.

I'm just warning everyone - don't do it.

I really don't understand why anyone would want to shoot water at perfect strangers. It seems a bit sadistic to me, especially on a day as chilly as today.

The manufacturer of the blasters should be using a better system than just putting tape over the coin slots, something like actually placing a tarp or bag over them that actually shows "hey don't use this thing." Tape isn't going to stop anyone unless it's red, orange, or yellow and says DO NOT USE, DO NOT ENTER, etc. Even then people apparently loooooove to run over traffic cones.

They should have a better way of stopping people from using ones that are not working properly, but like a lot of things, that takes money and time and it is essentially a way to reduce those.

One question, why does the ride building have the water?Story wise,I mean? Was it just...there? Its my only gripe about one of my favorite rides at the park(as far as theming)

When I was little I thought it was oil on the because it was so dark.(That suddenly changed after my first ride.) I also heard when I went on the Insider tour that the ride had a re-vamp at some point.

I actually find them quite thrilling and fun. Because we you go on the turn around the boat picks up a little bit of speed creating a humongous splash. I would still take Pompeii over a shoot the chutes anyday.

Pompeii is a shoot the chutes ride, just a very well themed one.

What PK is referring to is shoot the chutes rides which don't have water in the upper trough (such as some of Arrow's boat rides), so the boats just roll along a track. Not fun. I personally like how the water ride aspect parallels with the theme of a city being destroyed by fire.

Well actually I'm not sure what pompeii would be classified as. There is no Shoot the Chutes on inatmins wbesite so I'm not sure. I think it might be a intamin spillwater that I found here.

Actually, I think Pompeii would be classified by Intamin as a "Super Splash".  That's pretty much just their name for a Shoot the Chutes.  The generic Shoot the Chutes name came from rides in the early 1900s.
