RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

We were in the Festhaus during an entire performance yesterday (we've always liked Festhaus as much as even Trappers, we often choose to eat there), but sat as far away from it as possible. I didn't think too many looked really enthralled with it, just from glancing around, though the building was maybe 3/4s full. Some response but not a lot to the meet and greet with the cast at the end. Way too loud audio, though. Really wish they would turn it down a good bit. Still, I can see that they put a lot of work into it and it works okay (better than I expected) on that stage as a full blown performance. Doesn't look cheapie or thrown together, certainly, but I'm not the target audience by a long shot (lol) and I still wish it were a family rather than a kiddie show.

For a kiddie show, I'm sure it's a good effort.

^I saw Entwined for the first time last Saturday, and I couldn't agree more about the volume. It was absolutley set at a ridiculous level.

During Haunt KD had this show (I mention KD a lot, lol) on the bandstand where the music was so loud I literally couldn't hear it that well. It sounded like a ton of bass, and I was right at the front. It hurt. It at least can't be that bad.

I recall volunteering with a class of 2nd graders, and cold reading Red Riding Hood or this Hansel & Gretel story, where in the original there is this horrible disgusting violence, and thinking "Oh my gosh, I don't remember this version from childhood."

I agree the volume is loud. In my case I liked it that way.

[split] Das Festhaus

I just went for the first time this year on Sunday the 27th of May. At lunch time my family and I headed over to Das Festhaus so that we could grab some pizza and enjoy our usual Festhaus show. After seeing the signs for the new show out front we were a bit disappointed but decided to check it out none the less. We walk in to see STROLLERGEDDON. The place is loaded with kids, not older kids but straight up BABIES. They were everywhere. Then the show started. Good god. We have never walked out of a place with more haste than we did that day. Awful song choices, awful singing, increasingly awful atmosphere, and the EQ was way off so the sound quality was terrible and shrill almost to the point of being agonizing in its own right. First the park brings in sesame street which at first I detested, but then realized that it works to keep a good portion of the strollers and babies out of the more grown up areas of the park, but now they've completely destroyed the Festhaus atmosphere -- A place that used to be the most adult-ish eatery in the entire park. If anyone goes, be sure to plan to be there while the show is NOT going on. I sincerely hope this is not the true direction in which the entire park is headed. There's family friendly and then there's adult unfriendly. Next thing you know they'll be taking out the Alpengeist and replacing it with sugarplum fairy tale village.

RE: [split] Das Festhaus

I can't believe the reaction entwined has gotten. During HOS it's too risqué yet during the regular season it's too KIDfriendly.

I am sure it's hard for the park to create a show that features elements both kids and adults can enjoy. So instead, they drew the line and made te Festhaus kidfriendly.

Personally, the show has potential and to me it is just okay. Although I don't think it's nessacary to say one new kidfriendly show mean the park is turning into Sesame Street.

Honesty, they have a good balance and yeah they may be tipping to one side vs the other often but they do the best they can as is.

Hmm, I hear where you are coming from, Party Rocker, but I would hope it wouldn't be that hard to come up with a family vs. a kiddie show, but maybe it is. I'm with m0n0lyth, as I've said before, this one is for the really, really young ones, not at all for older kids/families. Nursery crowd in other words.

Given the volume of the show plus the cast meet-and-greets at the end, I'd definitely say just go at another time if the show isn't for you. It's hard to just ignore the show if you are not interested in it.

Although definitely Strollergeddon (good one! ) for Festhaus, I truly don't think it is Armageddon for the park at large. Just something anyone without a very young child may want to actively avoid/plan around if you want to eat in Das Festhaus. I don't care for it and find the choice of target audience odd for the venue, but there it is.

Sorry to just be repeating myself but I had to respond to m0n0lyth's funny and apt comments!

You know, I think if you want an example of good balance, look at Celtic Fyre. That show works for most ages in my opinion.

I would say its mostly for an older crowd but the dancing and talent keeps the kids entertained, whic makes it family.

They had a good show...it was called "This is Octoberfest". All they needed to do was rotate old songs out and new songs in to keep if fresh. They could run a more kid friendly version during the day with the puppets and chicken dance and then switch to a more traditional German Octoberfest style with traditional songs at night.

No offense but I felt that show was more adult oriented. It was very traditional and more like a side show than something to pay attention to.

Also if you look back since 2010 the park has added a new show each year. 2010: Celtic Fyre 2011: Mix It Up 2012: Entwined 2013: ???

The park is just changing its shows and bringing in new ideas.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

Finally saw a full version of this show yesterday. Pretty good for kids, but what does Red bring to the table here? If it wasn't for G, she'd still be lost and stuck/lost in the forest.

So what's the story...is this coming back next season?

I'd be shocked if it weren't. The park has invested *so much* money into the stage, costumes, etc. They'd be crazy to just throw all of that work away.

Entwined Overhaul

I saw the show the other day, had the opportunity to talk to some cast members.

Sounds like Entwined is being drastically edited - one song taken out, all other songs cut down in length. They're adding a narrator (another character, I think?), and doing some other tweaks. From what it sounds like, the show will be a quarter to a third shorter, all in all.

Looks like the acrobats are still going to be a major part of the show (thank god - the only thing that makes it watchable... some of that singing is completely atrocious), but the wolf "mascot" might be getting the boot.

I asked about the volume, but wasn't given much of an answer.

These edits will be put into place within the next week, apparently. Here's hoping the dancers and singers and acrobats and everyone else get some rest between rehearsals... looks like it's going to be a long few days for the Entwined cast and crew. Most of them looked (and sounded!) dead yesterday afternoon.

I've heard something strikingly similar. Thanks for posting! I can't say that shortening the show is an improvement, but I guess it's nice to see them trying something...
