RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

EITA is a disaster. It's a great example. While they needed a new show, the one the went with is awful. Given the choice between EITA and the old show, they'd have been better off leaving Corkscrew Hill there.

But so you see my point? Our opinions conflict and that though you may not like something others will and it will stay for awhile.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

Sweet are we in a "I hate EITA" thread? I'm all about that. I don't really care much about Entwined, but I hate EITA.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

Ok...I'm indifferent to EITA. Quite frankly: it's boring, and everytime I see it, something's not working. It's definitely a yawner, and I let the rest of the 'fam go on it while I rest outside. I don't think it draws nearly as many as Corkscrew Hill nor the Questor did. Yes, I'd bet money on that, too :p

And what DrMoneyHATESBuschGardens said is right: first impressions are everything. It can make or break a show. If you have to 'grow to like a show', then they messed up. Chances are you'll never grow beyond indifference. Good/great shows grab you right away, and hold you there. That being said, the TIO show was never a 'standing ovation' show...but it was extremely well done, and it covered all age groups very well. More to the point: it fits with the theme of the beer hall. That long-lasting theme is going to be way too hard for a show like Entwined to change. It would take a show of great magnituded to do such a thing. Changing some lights and a few backdrops and sound effects in a massive building like that one makes it look more out of place than it already is. They me$$ed up. It will probably linger because of the cash outlay. I think the worst thing about it is how much of an incredible waste of money when so many more important things need addressed. TIO wasn't broken. Did it need updated/upgraded? I think we all agree on that. Did it need changed completely (along with an uber-lame partial re-theming of the Festhaus)??? Certainly not. A new TIO show would have breathed new life into the Festhaus...and with minimal $$ outlay. Frankly, it's saddening that the money wasn't put to good use.

There goes 2 more cents ;)

So I want to tell a story. Entwined is not the park's first attempt at telling fairy tales. As early as 2000, they had an area set up in the extended queue of Wild Maus with costumed characters to tell kids stories. You'res truly played Hansel. This was not my choice, I was working at LoD that year and wanted to work at HoS, but they stuck me in this section. The single best part of this was that the version of the story was an authentic version. The version which involved cutting the witch's belly open and putting in rocks to trick her into thinking she was full. Needless to say, there were quite interesting looks on parents faces.

Interesting - I always heard that as being the ending of The Wolf and the Seven Young Kids, and that Gretel pushed the witch into the oven - cool either way that they went with a Grimm-style ending!

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

I'm going to research it later to find a version as close as possible to what I remember. I do think I remember the oven. If I I can find one, I'll post it somewhere.

I'm also going to to also research any meanings behind the story, like how Red Riding Hood was originally about the dangers of sex before marriage. I know that's a gross over simplification of the story, but I'm on my phone. I'm sure people would to blast the park for not sticking to the original stories. :p

Indeed! The moral that Charles Perrault assigned to the tale:

"From this story one learns that children, especially young lasses, pretty, courteous and well-bred, do very wrong to listen to strangers, And it is not an unheard thing if the Wolf is thereby provided with his dinner. I say Wolf, for all wolves are not of the same sort; there is one kind with an amenable disposition – neither noisy, nor hateful, nor angry, but tame, obliging and gentle, following the young maids in the streets, even into their homes. Alas! Who does not know that these gentle wolves are of all such creatures the most dangerous!"

I actually read that the Red Riding Hood versions that were told earlier, while. not explicitly pornograpgic, did have the wolf (as grandma) tell Red to take off her clothes and get in bed.

Why didn't the park include this in Entwined?

Maybe that'll be in the HoS change-over version.

I love the original stories, very educational and entertaining :)

Wasn't sure where to post this, so I figured it would fit most here.

I saw two costumed actresses wandering the Oktoberfest area. They were wearing what looked like green versions of the TIO/Maypole show costumes. They seemed to be wandering the area, posing for pictures and hanging around some of the new props from last year.

Could this be foreshadowing to what they have planned for the roaming bands during the summer season?

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

My guess is they'll have a very small 'Oktoberfest' show at the outdoor table area between the Pretzel store and the Darkastle store. The adults have obviously been ejected from the Festhaus :p

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

I went to BGW this Saturday with my fiancee, her 2 yr old son, her teenage nice and boyfriend. This was my first time back to BGW since the mid 90s when I was in Jr High. Though I lived (and moved back to) Tidewater, I never went more than once every couple of years because my parents couldn't stand theme parks and coasters. I remember the old shows and the feel of the park. I did the chicken dance. We have year passes now and will be going sans kids on occasion as well.

We saw Entwined at Festhaus, during lunch. I was very active in theatre for over 10 years, including professional theatre and set design. I was impressed by the lights, music, props and costumes, although a couple of them were over the top and the BBW looked more like a college mascot. I could not get Once Upon a Time out of my head the entire bloody day, which was annoying. My fiancee, the teenagers a I weren't put off by the show, we found entertainment in poking fun at some of the costume designs, while comical, were top notch. The acrobats were a joy to watch, and the other songs were pretty good. My step-son however sat completely enthralled with a french fry in his hand midway to mouth the entire show. I don't think he even blinked.

Personally, I would like to see a variety of shows, say a more YA/Adult show alternating with Entwined at Festhaus. The stage and I would think backstage has the ability for prop storage for an alternate show if needed, built in props on the stage aren't distracting. But, if BGW was looking for a family/kid show to entertain, they more than succeeded. While I wouldn't want to watch the show every time we go, it's worth seeing a couple of more times just to see the wide eyed wonder on my sons face.
