RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

Alright, let me say this first; it's not a bad show from a kid's POV and fits BGW's theme. The park has had a long history of shows that are Disney-esk in the Hastings/Ireland area. In addition, the overall magical theme of the show fits the park's fantastical setting perfectly despite being based off of fairy tales. The fairy tale argument is kind of moot IMO, because fairy tales are nothing more than very popular folk stories, which the park has used plenty in the past (LNM, BBW, Alpengiest, ect). I am glad that the park decided to put on a large scale production like this, I feel that this /should/ be a step in the right direction for those who are not happy with "quality" (best term I can think of) of the park in recent years.

For the show itself, I thought it was pretty neat. I really do like the modular stage effects, the songs were good choices, and I love the outfits. The choreography, once perfected, will be pretty good and match any other BGW show. The songs were well performed as well. There are some odd things as far as story progression goes and other small details, but I can let this pass because nitpicking on these for a kiddy show is really like nitpicking the story progression for an episode of Sesame Street. Kids are going to like this show either way and gosh darn it, I kind of as well. It's not my favorite show the park has ever done, but I still like it.

The biggest issue, as mentioned before, is the location for a kiddy show. While I don't see the festhaus as a beer hall, the show's limited audience of who will get the most out of the show makes it a poor choice for a larger theater in the park. This location will also present other problems when the park introduces beer maidens (depending on the outfits, since the outfits are the only thing prudes care about and never context) and Fiends later this year. As many people have said, this show should be at the Globe. They could keep the scale and special effects with a (much needed) Globe renovation.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

i saw part of it today. Definitely a children's show. But that place was packed and the kids were eating it up. Looks like they trimmed back the purple witch's dress so she wont get caught up anymore. Didn't see any technical difficulties either. Looks neat, wish it was in the globe and they had a show targeted at an older audience, but oh well.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

RocketChk mentioned that there were no showings past 6:00pm. That leaves a lot of open time. they could bring back 'This is Octoberfest' for the beer drinking nightime crowd.

Globe is being revamped for an entirely different show....no dice

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

Having watched the video (thanks Swiftman), it's clear this show is targeted at around ages 6 and under. While it has the typical great singers (the likes of which we've seen at the park at other shows) it has NO business being in the Festhaus (yes, a BEER HALL). As said before, there are plenty of other places in the park which REALLY need attention. Re-vamping the Festhaus shows a serious lack of priorities, IMHO. If a real kids show was sorely needed, then it was poorly implemented (I'm being kind).

The show may appeal to kids. That's great, and I'm not knocking kiddie entertainment. I have 2...except they're beyond the age group to which this show is clearly targeted to. I find the people in the animal costumes to be VERY similar to 'mascots' (which I think someone else already said as well). I was able to make it through the entire video. However, once you get past the first few minutes, it's pretty much 'more of the same' until the end. The acrobats were just 'ok' compared to others I've seen at BGW. The only thing I found really appealing about the show was the vocalists. My daughter came to my computer to see the video while I had it on. She watched for about 20 seconds, said 'oh my goodness...', then went back to what she was doing. She's...between 8-12 years old.

Get the show out of the Festhaus. Put it in an area which appeals...AND IS THEMED TO...kids. Don't take away the FAMILY shows. And don't mess with the Festhaus.

Who's up for putting a beer hall in Elmos Land?? ROFL!! Paybacks ;)

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

Oh, absolutely, the jarring thing about this is not nearly so much the show itself, but putting it in the Festhaus. I really would like a family/"appeal to all" show for the Festhaus, not a preschool kids/kiddie show.

Ok, so the Globe's out (and thanks for the info), and I realize this is a pretty significant production, but thematically it seems it would have been much better for Forest of Fun or even a revamped Land of the Dragons maybe?

Very true, BBW. Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't revamp Land of the Dragons after they put in Elmos Land...or whatever it's called. Isn't that why Elmos was put in the park in the first place? So it's at the front of the park, and parents didn't have to push/walk their kids all the way to Germany so they could have a place to enjoy (Land of the Dragons)?? I wouldn't be too upset if they seriously revamped LOTD and put this new show over there somewhere...

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

As much as I hate the show it's a great fit for the Festhaus. It's a large production that is attention grabbing. It makes people want to eat there and spend more time there which equals more spending on food and beverage which is great for busch. I think what is upsetting most of you is the removal of the stage. This new one in no way, shape, or form resembles the old one. It's change, something most people on this site do not like. The park is keeping up with the times. Things have only begun...

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

There is absolutely no way this show would work at LoD or FoF. Part of the show's quality is it's production value, which could /never/ be reproduced on either of those stages. Scale Entwined down and it would be crap.

Also, while it looks and is themed after a beer hall, it reality, the festhaus is not a place who's sole purpose is for people to get drunk like a real beer hall. It's a restaurant that has a lot of seating and is a tad more family friendly than the German equivalent to a large bar. If it was a real beer hall, there's a good chance that you would be carded to get in. I'm all for themeing it like a beer hall, even a beer maiden, but BG isn't a foreign embassy in which as soon as you walk on it, you're legally in Germany.

Exactly; take away the spectacle, and people will see there's no substance.

Don't miss understand what I'm trying to say, one can easily enjoy the spectacle of the show.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

I do wonder how much the perception could be changed by just changing one costume. Ditch the wolf costume, and the feeling of the entire show would be drastically different. My wife and I saw the dress rehearsal during preview weekend. We both decided that the wolf did, indeed, look like a mascot. We saw the full show the following weekend with my 11 year old son, and the first thing he said was "Why do they have a mascot costume? And why's he wearing a jersey?" Busch, look at some Broadway costumes. Look at Cats, look at what Disney's done with Beauty and the Beast and Lion King. You don't have to have a furry costume. The Little Red Riding Hood segment of Entwined could be absolutely beautiful, with one single change.[/i]

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

Can anyone weigh in on who made the decision to replace "This is Octoberfest" with this turd? I'd like to organize a campaign to bring back the iconic Festhaus show & band. I realize with the investment already made in these changes it's going to be a tough battle, but I can't stand by and idly watch my favorite place on earth destroyed. Anyone interested?
