RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

That is one thing I wanted to get a pic of! The mushroom seats for guests to sit close to the stage!

@The_Swiftman One of the mushroom seats at Entwined just randomly snapped in half. Talk about quality construction.

So some of the mushroom seats are for guests? I wonder if it was a guest shroom that broke?

They have mushrooms surrounding the stage for guests to sit closer, it is mostly little children that do this, however you have the occasional adult who does too. I'm sure the seats and the close proximity to the stage excite little children.

Alright, 57 seconds into a YouTube video of this show and I had to turn it off. I hate it.

And I know I should see it in person before I judge. That would be nice-but there's no shows past 6pm. This makes no sense. None. My schedule doesn't allow me to get there until after 6pm hauling butt. So basically, I'm SOL when it comes to trying to see a show at night. Which reminds me...

But hey, I'm sure my kids will love it.

In the past, I'd advocated about bringing kids to HOS, knowing that it's not kid friendly, but knowing your own kids' limits and all that. But I'm going to side with the group that I usually don't fit in.

Whoever decided this show needed to exist---in Das Festhaus, keep that in mind---should be fired. This show belongs in LoD. Hell, it would be a perfect upgraded show for that area. But to COMPLETELY destroy what walking into the Festhaus means and what emotions it should evoke...is unacceptable. Switch up the show, not the entire atmosphere, to what is really the mecca of Busch Gardens.

Unbelieveable.

Thank you for more eloquently expressing in words the point I was trying to make. Well said.

Make no mistake, people. I'm a BGW fanboy, and have been since the late '80s. I've been able to get alot of people to check out BGW, giving the park more loyal customers. My faith in the park has been shaken. Not just because of the show (like I said, the show really has little to do with how I feel about the recent change/changes).

The guy who made this decision should be spanked, THEN fired. I'm all for GRADUAL changes and tweaks to keep things fresh. But there are just some things you shouldn't even THINK about messing with. The cuckoo clock scared the crap out of me...until it was obvious that it was a removable facade (Thank God). I'm sorry, but the clock is hideos. It is unique...it is imaginative...it's out-of-place. Why cover up the entire front of a CLASSIC building?? People LOVE to see the giant stained-glass window on the front of it!! Especially at night.

Again, there's plenty of other areas in the park that are WAY past due for some serious 'tweaking'. The Festhaus is a permanent favorite. If it's not broken, don't try to 'fix' it. I continue to be floored that it even entered someones mind to 'redo' the Festhaus. Of all places. Personally, I think this 'new kind of show' crap started with Kinetix. I tried to like that show. Many times. It made me ill just as many times. The previous Ireland show was Godawful. The latest is much better than the previous, but I SERIOUSLY miss Irish Thunder. Real instruments. Nice solos. Just an amazing show. Didn't need alot of 'flash' or 'dazzle'. It stood on its own. The mark of a classic show.

In the simplest form...again...the attraction of Busch Gardens Williamsburg is that it has something DIFFERENT from ANY other theme park. It DOES things different than other parks. When my parents went there, I warned them ahead of time that you CANNOT compare BGW to WDW or any other theme park. Even though they are die-hard WDW fans, they have fallen in love with BGW. However, once you start 'diluting that uniqueness', the things that set BGW apart from their competition, people start running out of excuses to travel all the way to visit the park when there's other parks which are many hours closer to them which are 'just as good'.

I'll stop there, although I could go on for hours about this. Sometimes my heart runs away with my fingers. Or vice-versa. lol Yes, I'm passionate with how I feel about BGW. Always have been.

And I agree with you.

You know what's really sad is that I forgot about the stained glass window. Because of that clock. When you mentioned it, I instantly remembered how beautiful it was. Das Festhaus really was a work of art. The stage was innovative. I still look up at the ceiling and am just in awe of how beautifully simple it is. I really thought is was perfect and did not need to be touched.

And I know how you feel about being passionate about the park. BG is known as 'Mommy's Happy Place' in my house. And when you mess with my happy place, I can usually mourn and move on, but this show is something else. Lines have been crossed all over.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

Having seen it twice yesterday here's a few quick points about it:
  • Entwined is a great children's show. It truly is very well done- for a children's show. Children absolutely adore the thing. I've never seen children's faces glued to one thing for so long at the park.
  • Entwined isn't ready for its debut. Like we heard talk of last weekend, yesterday the show had a ton of problems. Light, sound, stage, and even some of the gymnast acts didn't work or didn't flow smoothly. From a mushroom breaking in half while a kid was sitting on it to to the guy who had to come out with a power drill and remove the broken mushroom to people's microphones just not working- the show has a lot of problems. I understand you'll see some hiccups, but Entwined wasn't ready.
  • The show has talent. There were a bunch of new faces in Entwined and all of them are quite talented. It's almost a shame to see their talent, well, wasted in a children's show.
  • Entwined fills a void in the park's lineup. The park needs a kids show that fits the theme of the park. Elmo doesn't count. Entwined would have worked remarkably well in the Globe- Pirates 4D is crap anyway.
  • It doesn't fit the theme at all. How you walk into a beer hall (soon to be staffed with beer maidens) and end up in a theater for a children's show themed around the black forest is beyond me.
  • Unlike This is Oktoberfest, Entwined is a theatrical production- something that, at least in my opinion, doesn't fit inside the park's main eatery.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

I just really did not think they were going for a kiddie show rather than a family show. Just so surprised that they would put something with such a narrow target audience into the Festhaus, the major indoor dining facility, which should be a haven for all!

I can't help but feel this is one more thing that takes away from what was once the unique feel and spirit of BGW, along the lines of what flamanar says. I've said it before here and I know it's not a popular opinion, but for me the magic of the place is really being lost. I have really cared about BGW and like RocketChk, it was a "happy place" for my husband and me to go and feel transported to another land, with great rides, beauty everywhere (from the gardens and landscaping to the themeing of the buildings), fun, even a little serenity in places.

I have been so passionate about BGW and that's why I have to sound off about these things! The park is seeming more gaudy and rushed and lacking a unified vision, looking more like any other theme or even amusement park. A German beer hall into a kiddie show? Aagghh!

Yup: at the risk of losing everything that makes her truly unique, the park is, instead, trying everything possible to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

None at all ;) Just saying the park seems to be on the 2011-2012 fairytale bandwagon (Once Upon a Time, Grimm, 2 Snow White movies, etc), and they're aiming to capitalize on that mass appeal...

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

That's an interesting theory. It's just thay beyond the one Snow White movie (I refuse to believe the other on exists), there isn't that much of a bandwagon.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

Oh, forgot about those. You might be right.

Despite it's location, which is my only major problem with it, it's still a pretty major production for a bandwagon.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

I guess the question is how long has this show been in development, and how much consideration were they giving to TV shows that could have been cancelled quickly or movies that could be major flops? (good thing they didn't go for a John Carterish theme ;) )

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012)

I'm going to write up something more substantial later. However, I will leave you with my favorite outfit and why I like it.

The actress gave a "WTF" look when I asked to take a pic of her back.
