I hope they can fix this thing. It's like Grizzly at its worst but some of the bumps doubled. It might fool you for a bit because the rubber wheels on wood track are eerily quiet. Heard others getting off of it and saying "terrible" and "awful" and for once didn't think they're just GP. Went to Holiday World and The Raven immediately topped it, though didn't stay on top for long!

I have one ride on it and have said that will be all I ever have on it unless someone tells me it's been drastically improved. For contrast I rode KD's Hurler through it's last opperating season and found it more enjoyable.

I haven't gone in a few years but this was my #1 then. That was from before the derailing. The back is definitely the way to go.

Calling this worse than orginal grizzly is fucking INSANE. The ride to me had 1 bad pothole near the end. The rest of the ride at worse shakes some. Is it glass? No. Is it violently rough unridable? Absolutly not.. Rather ride toro than Rapterra in any given seat.

The best bet for most riders right now would be row 17, 1 away from the back. Almost the same amount of force and airtime, but a lot less bumpy since the seats have no wheels underneath (wheels are under rows 16 and 18).

Pictures from this past offseason make it look like some new track was installed for the initial drop and the first hill. It may be my imagination, but to me you can almost feel the transition to older track as you crest the top of the hill before the camera. I think the full retracking project will do wonders for this ride's smoothness - it really was world class in its prime. Still a phenomenal ride, but seat choice can change the experience quite drastically.

Someone on /r/rollercoasters is claiming it's a three off-season project and it's all new prefab track straight from Intamin? Love to hear it if true!
Yes, it was confirmed by the park at the last East Coaster event.

Don't know if it's true but it matches what I have heard from others that seem to be in the loop with developments at Great Adventure.

Actually, somewhat confusingly, the presentation video says there’s three phases, with phase one being worked on now, but they also said that they expect to finish phase 2 and 3 during the 2026-2027 off season, so the ride will be ready for the 2027 season with all of its new track.

Also, as far as retracking with new Intamin Prefab track, I think folks were expecting an RMC track replacement, since that’s what happened with T-Expess, so straight from Intamin *is* the better option.
Re-checked the tape and you're right re timing of El Toro re-tracking. He waffled a bit, saying it's a little up in the air as they try to line things up, but their target is to finish phases 2 & 3 of the re-tracking by "early spring" 2027.

I’m wondering if phase 2 is going to happen once Toro is done for the season but the park is still open, and then phase 3 happens once the park is officially closed (assuming it has a similar schedule to what it has in the past)

Follow-up post since I didn't have a chance to write this fully at the time. I lapped Toro a few times, then went on other rides and came back to Toro for more.

Even though it was a preview day, ops were as good as could be expected for one train. There were several of my rides where they flew down the train checking restraints. Conversely, they often had to recheck the train, particularly cars 1, 2, and 5 (seemed to happen on most trains). No downtime when I was riding it, but I wasn't there the whole day.

My first ride was about mid-train, within the first 45 minutes of operation. Between the location of my seat, the cold weather, and the fresh train, it felt a bit sluggish, particularly through the back half of the ride, though I'm sure this will improve with time/temp. The ride here felt very smooth.

My other rides were all towards the back, focused on the last two cars. The ride was much more forceful (in a good way), especially on the first two hills and in the twister section. These sections felt much better than in the past; 'clean' rather than 'jerky' forces, which made them much smoother than they have been in years.

The twister section and the banked 180 seemed to be the focus of much of the track replacement. There are some spots (and this might just be the placebo effect) where I swear I could tell when we transitioned from a recently replaced to an older segment of track. The older segments aren't as bad as the ones that really needed attention, but once we see the full replacement next year, this ride will be running as it did during the first few seasons. The future track is still visible in the fmr. Northern Star Arena.

Overall, if you sit in the middle row of a car (avoiding the wheel bogies), you'll have the smoothest experience, but even in the rear car over the wheels, it was still smooth.
