I noticed last Saturday that there are new eagles in Eagle Ridge...Abigail, Franklin and Martha. Penny is still there as well.

Some of their new bald eagles don't exactly look like bald eagles.

Sexually immature male eagles have a combination of brown and white coloring on the head and black beaks. They achieve maturity at about 5 years. The new eagle without the white head must be under 5.

Another sight I had never witnessed before...

I know that "Aquilla" isn't part of Eagle Ridge, but she is still a family member (golden eagle). It was so nice to see her getting some action today with a trainer. She was on the ground walking around and stalking whatever the trainer had in his hand. He would then toss it towards her and she attacked it and gobbled it up. Awesome sight!! I just hate seeing these majestic birds sitting on a stump all day. It was so nice to see her enjoying herself.

We went to BG about two weeks ago and as we were walking past the Eagles, we decided to stop and look for a bit. Those two from CK's picture were sitting on the log, and the other two "loners" were in different parts of the habitat. The two on the log were doing a "stare down" to one of the "loner" eagles. Then after about five minutes, they spun around and stared at the other "loner" eagle. I thought it was funny (but I also have a child like sense of humor. )

But what if the eagles escape again and all for the sake of a tourists picture, no offense CK.

Just thought of something to point out, earlier we talked about an eagle escaping, and then the owners were concerned that the park is not adequate to keep the eagles there.

Well, it is illegal by federal law to own an eagle. The eagles at Busch Gardens are on loan from the United States of America Government.

Eagles are too big to escape from that hole. Not to mention the birds know that there are strange humans by that fence so they never go near it.

False.
The Bald Eagle..although recently taken off the endangered species list is still illegal to own unless you are a zoo, or wildlife rehabilitator.

According to the BGW website:

"Our bald eagles are rescued after being injured but cannot be returned to the wild. Other animals, we get from Busch Gardens Tampa. This is the case for Aquila, our new golden eagle. A few of my coworkers and I had the opportunity to visit Busch Gardens Tampa and shadow a few animal trainers and educators. We brought Aquila back to Williamsburg with us on February 28."

I didn't see a thread for the Owls of Busch Gardens anywhere but would love to see more pictures of them.
The tiny screech owl Pickwick is my favorite and I had the pleasure of holding him at a visit last year.
