The cavegirl, Catherine Hauke, has not been cut from DIU.

Then I have some hope for the show.

My friend Cat is a consummate entertainer, and never disappoints. It's just the 'shortened' brass ensemble I'm wondering about. Adding more soundtracks to make up for the lack, will not be good.

(Brandon Musko, the saxophonist, will also be returning.)

The DIU stage is set. I swear that Mr. T-Rex is leaning forward/lower than he was last week. Compare...

Him last week looks awkward in my opinion. Today's looks much more natural.

So, I guess those buildings on the side are staying. :(

Peter R. and I were discussing that today. It appears so. Someone said they were put in for Grape Smasher during F&WF. They do look out of place now. But then again...aliens, dinosaurs, and mummies...in San Marco?!?

Enjoyed Dig It Up. My wife can't stop watching the Cave Girl. She thinks she is great. Glad she is back this year.
Like the show, but still don't get what it has to do with Halloween. I guess I still long for Starfright Orchestra.

RE: Dig it Up (2012 to Present)

I enjoyed the show too. I was wishing for the fuller sound that the musicians had in the past (due solely to their increased numbers then). We went to the 9:00 show straight from the 8:30 Night Beats and had to sit in the back. For me the shows are just so much more engaging when I sit near the front so I usually try to get to all of them in time to be in the first few rows. I'm looking forward to Sunday when I will make it a priority to get better seating. It's so much easier to enjoy the cave-people's antics and feel more immersed in all the little things the wonderful performers do to make the audience entertained when you're nearer to the stage. Or maybe it's just a middle-aged eyesight problem...

RE: Dig it Up (2012 to Present)

But if you are in the back, the cave-people run right by you and interact, so that's fun. We caught Dig It Up once plus walked by the 9pm show. Looked good, like others said a little "quieter" because of fewer musicians, but still a fun little show. Seemed pretty much identical to last year. They are getting pretty good at the slow-running thing.

As usual, cave-people stole the show.

^I got a picture of you taking this picture! muahahahahaha!

My favorite drummer wasn't there, by the way. =(

The icon of Dig It Up!, Catherine, charges onto the stage at the opening of the show. If there's such a thing as 'having too much fun,' this lady does! (With Catherine Hauke, David Leslie, and Dominic Palmer.)

RE: Dig it Up (2012 to Present)

Is it me or are there less performers in this show now? I could have sworn there were two janitors last year. Also, the alien part is still weird.

CK, please report back with pictures of the pirate incorporation. That part was kind of awesome.

RE: Dig it Up (2012 to Present)

Yup, it's running with a reduced cast this year. Fiends and Night Beats are as well from what I understand.

RE: Dig it Up (2012 to Present)

MUCH less. Plus, many new faces. I recall a return of 1 sax, 3 drummers, and 1 dancer (maybe 2?). I think the 2 girl dancers are new. Other new musicians are a drummer, the tuba, trumpet, and bass trombone. The other trombone player is new in the past month or so, I believe. They have the cavemen dancing it's so low. And the male dancer being the alien with one girl on the saucer means only 1 dancer at the end.

From memory thats 3 dancers, 4 drummers and 5 musicians for 2013. So, a cast of 12. You can hear the weakness. The trumpet player will have to be superman without the 2 others.

2012 I recall 5 dancers, 4 cave-fellers and 7 musicians for a cast of 16.

They didn't even have cast photos in the placards for the theatre.
