I actually thought, up until the guest interaction with a special someone, that the "reasons" were all of the...ahem... sultry parts of the show. Red dress...off the shoulder...then GREEN EVERYWHERE!! :D

I'd noticed when we were there the Sunday after Thanksgiving that it was turning half turns, then full turns, after the show. Like it was being tested or realigned, not sure.

The fireplace has lights, which require electrical power. There are a couple ways to transmit power through a rotating joint, like the pivot around which the fireplace turns. The first is to use a slip ring. This is something like your headphone jack. It has wipers that allow electrical signal transmission even when the center is rotated infinitely. The trouble with slip rings is that ones rated for transmitting any significant power are expensive. (They also eventually wear out.) The cheap way is just to run cables up through the joint. With this method, the number of turns is limited before you need to reverse and untwist the cables.

If you notice, on the side of the stage opposite the food, there is a control station for the fireplace. During shows, an operator runs the fireplace. This station also has a video monitor displaying the picture from a camera hanging directly above the fireplace, looking down. For a unique view of the show, you can sit by the operator and watch the show from above. I've got a video clip at home I can post later. After the show, the operator runs the fireplace backward the right number of turns to untwist the cables that power the fireplace lights and fire effect.

A fun moment in 'Deck the Halls' today. Matt Marberry sang Blue Christmas to a little girl and gave her a lasting memory. I was a little out of position to properly record this moment, but I did my best to get it. I dropped the recording into a bit of the edited show video to give it some context. It doesn't flow as smoothly as the real edited video (the pacing of the cuts is off). It still looks nice though.

I saw Deck the Halls at 5:30 tonight and I feel like I have to make a comment on the poor sound mixing. It's been inconsistent since I first saw it this season, but tonight it was especially obvious. The main problem was that the woodwinds were not nearly loud enough. This usually happened when the musicians switched from a louder instrument (i.e. sax) to a quieter one (clarient/flute), and the mixer(s) simply failed to adjust the levels when the musicians changed. Another thing that was noticeable was the muffled drums. They were definitely there and boomy but lacked a certain "crispiness" on the cymbals and that clarity could have been easily adjusted. I don't try to be a big critic but it was bad enough I felt like I needed to throw this out there. Hopefully someone with the authority to act upon it will read this.

To be perfectly honest, Deck the Halls has been horrendously inconsistent in just about every way possible throughout the entire event. The cast is talented and the show is good, but it seems to be plagued by constant problems- whether it be missing cast members, technical problems, audio problems (as Natoma highlighted above), etc. To put it into perspective, I've filmed Deck the Halls the last 3 times I've seen it. I still don't have a recording I'm happy with- not because of my video work, but because essential cast members are missing, some awful technical problem happens, or a long list of other things.

I've always overlooked the sound issues. I see it as a live show and these things can happen, but what bugs me is the poorly directed lighting. Many of the overhead lights will shine directly on the audience, especially if you site off center two table back. I've had to move on several occasions.

I really am not a big fan of Deck the halls. It's a good show, it's just not upto par with the quality of Gloria! and Miracles. I wouldn't mind Deck The Halls being replaced with a show with modern christmas songs, just a better story line.

I liked Deck the Halls a lot...the cast was talented and full of energy, and the costumes were incredible; however, it is a bit too energetic for me...I prefer Gloria's and Miracles' more subdued storyline....they are both more about the magic and beauty of Christmas instead of the commercialism.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at 4:40 in the video, isn't that the same dance move the bugs use during the jitterbug in Night Beats?

Just seems eerily familiar, and I've seen Night Beats a zillion times.

You're right, Malsdad...to be honest, I find pathetic that they reuse dance moves...they couldn't have been any more creative? Speaking of reused things, aren't the gingerbread costumes the same ones that were used in the 2012 version of Entwined?

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic about the costumes...I think they're cool..I was honestly curious if they were the same ones from Entwined because they looked familiar. As for the dance moves, I just found it kind of strange that they used the same one as in Night Beats...I didn't realize how I made that comment come off, so super sorry about that!
