I want to see some sort of monument or plaque commemorating the Big Bad Wolf by it's former station when the 2012 coaster occupies it. I doubt they would do that though. :-/

lets not forget the coaster that was there before the wolf was Die Wildkatze.

True but Die Wildkaze wasn't as famous or memorable as the Wolf. Also Die Wildkaze is still around, It's currently at Adventure Park USA in Maryland under the name "Wild Cat". The coaster has actually been transfered to other parks several times throughout its history.

Hello, Everyone.

Newbie here to this forum but definitely not a BGW newbie as I've been going to the park since it first opened.

I rode Das Kätzchen when I was a child and I have a pic of myself riding it somewhere. I'll have to dig it out, scan it and post it here. The coaster was not located near or behind Die Wildkatze as someone else here stated. It was located in Grimm's Hollow which was a small children's play area in the Rhinefeld near the carousel. The only rides close to Die Wildkatze back then were Der Werbelwind (where Mäch Tower now resides), Die Schwartze Spinne (Spider ride where Der Werbelwind now resides), and Der Blitzschneller (Trabant ride where Der Roto Baron now resides).

Welcome to the forums!

Mäch Tower isnt Replacing Der Werbelwind, Its replacing Der Katapult. Nothing major, but still, a minor Mistake.(sorry if this isnt the correct way to make a quote, im still fairly new to these forums)

Der Katapult replaced Der Werbelwind, and now Mach Tower is replacing Der Katapult- so you're both right.

By the way, welcome to both of you. Nice to see some more new faces around here. Sly, yes, you quoted the post correctly.

I did not say that. I was pointing out the original location of Der Werbelwind when Oktoberfest first opened in the 1970s and that is where Mäch Tower is going in.

Another reason the park should set up some type of history display in the park. I wish they had made room for something like that in the new Oktoberfest, would have been a nice way to tie the park's past into the future.
hahaha. For a few days, I've been thinking a "Back-from-the-Dead Store" would fit into HoS nicely. It could sell plush dragons (for DF), plush wolves (for BBW), plush cats (for DW), plush witches (for Corkscrew), Old Country T's, and plush gnomes or whatever they were (for Grimm's Hollow), and other "souveniers" from defunct attractions.

I like it. But there should be one open for the park all year round! Like a "retro" store that sells replica t-shirts and souvenirs from BGW's past!

Here's a picture of Das Katzchen, it was located directly beside Die Wildkatze and was essentially just a scaled down version of Glissade.

I actually had the brochure with a picture of it this whole time!

Actually Chris, I'm pretty sure the coaster in that brochure is the Glissade. Das Katzchen was essentially a 50-60 ft. oval with very little elevation change. I faintly remember riding this one and, even at 8 or 9, I recall it being pretty boring.

And Ham - I think it had restraints. Just regular seat belt style.

I actually have a poster style map that I bought at BG around 1980 and it depicts the coaster as such (small, oval). I've tried to post an image of the map - but the size prevents me. I'll keep working on getting it up there. Stay tuned. :shy:

And now I present to you an ever-elusive pic of the defunct Das Kätzchen roller coaster from the early days of Busch Gardens: The Old Country!

That's me riding in the middle car, front row, left. I'm riding with a classmate whose name I can't recall. Heck, even with this pic I don't have any recollection of riding this coaster! That's how long ago it was! LOL

Unagi,

If I may ask a big favor. May I please post this on BGW memories? I would certainly give you and BGWfans credit for this along with a link. This is amazing and if I could hug you through the computer, I would. If not, I understand.

I've wanted to see this ride again for years! Thanks.

My daughter would've love this thing. Could adults ride it?

There was a maximum height limit. I don't recall the exact height but I believe it was between 50-60 inches. The ride-ops had a measuring stick and if your height went above it you could not ride.

Adults couldn't fit because these cars were literally small square boxes with small seats.

Nowadays, it seems like they make sure adults have the option to fit into these sort of rides (i.e. Grover's Alpine Express). No more letting your kids wander off and ride things by themselves. Guess it is too much of a liability issue now.
