I would love to have it open during Christmas Town and it is possible. The main problem standing in the way is how annual maintenance is set up. I would venture to say if they had two handfuls more of technicians and labor, they could get maintenance done quicker, leaving the ride open longer.

And then, again, there are its much more aggressively-programmed counterparts in Singapore, Florida, and California which operate more-or-less 365 days a year with minimal downtime. But yes, I would venture that that difference is at least in major part thanks to a larger maintence crew (and probably budget).

The main difference like you said is budget and maintenance crew. If they could fix those, DarKastle could very well be open longer.

Like I said, the ride is capable of very aggressive movements, but yes, I know for a fact that the maintenance team is much smaller than you would think. They also have a limit to the amount of sleighs they can have in the maintenance area at a time, while still being able to work on them.
Just for fun, here are pictures of two sleighs in maintenance. You can probably tell which one is broken.

The Giant Snail was in Darkastle! Where Ludwig said "And I'm getting a head of myself!" It was right there on the platter, all zombified, and dead! I had nightmares.

Anyone remember when that brown stuff on the first picture used to be white? The external up-keep has really gone down-hill also.

Actually, I quite like not having the white ice theming. With the water effect running, I feel that itself gives a good illusion that he frozen castle is melting.

I knew someone would make an excuse to that comment. Truthfully I don't see it that way, all I see is yet another piece of theming left to rot, without being fixed, yet again.

I do respect that thought. I honestly do feel it can go either way and things will still fit fine with the storyline. I'd also like to say that, it is not an excuse, it is an opinion that I think it looks fine.

At one point I know the park completely removed the "ice", because it was beginning to look more like bird mess. I haven't payed much attention since then.
Maybe they should use the new method that they are using in SeaWorld Orlando's Antarctica:Empire of the Penguin. That method was developed to extend the longevity of the ice looking clean.

isn't the story about neglect and how everything has gone horribly wrong…thumeing seems to be on par with that :p No one has mentioned the lights...

You know what really makes you feel old . . . having kids. I do feel much older. I can remember back when I first heard about DarKastle being built. I was so confused on what it was exactly as a kid :p
