So, not to bring back threads from the dead, but Darkastle's going under renovation this winter. What do you think we can expect?

While I'd like them to FINALLY add the heat and air-puff effects the ride so desperately needs (and maybe restore the water), I'm skeptical. Probably they're just going to re-sync the scenes, tune up the cars, clean the projectors/scrims, etc.

Sorry please disregard the previous post I had here.

Also, last time I rode the ride, during Howl-o-Scream this year, the fireplace smoke effect was working. Not sure if anyone noticed that, but yes you go through a smoking fireplace now instead of an empty one.

Soooooooooooo... there never was a heat blast?

Was there a heat blast? I rode it shortly after it opened and didn't notice...or maybe they turned it off early on.

The smoke being back was a nice touch, but they still need to do MORE. Big portions of the ride were dark after "temporary" changes years ago, and the last few scenes are just straight up not working now.

I had wondered if this was a regular occurrence. Every time I got to the "towers" scene (or scene 7) the screen was frozen. If you have no which scene I'm talking about, see that part of the video attached below. It starts at 2:02. I wish they would bring it back to the 2005 version. It also wouldn't hurt if they brought the spinning back. I asked the head of the DarKastle maintenance crew if the spinning motion was too hard on the ride vehicles, but he said that wasn't the problem. I think the removal of that is probably why the ride is always off sync now.

The scene immediately after the fireplace, where Ludwig attacks you with a snake, has been off-sync every time I've ever ridden this ride. The audio never lines up with the video; and I've ridden this ride a lot.

There are two main factors that play in making this ride off-sync. The first problem is that when they reprogrammed the ride they had one guy sitting in a vehicle with a joystick, kind of like you would use in an old video game. However, they neglected to reprogram the original scenes. Second, and most of all, the reason why sometimes the problems are worse than other times, is because the ride is very temperamental. When you remove one of the vehicles from the track the computer system immediately tries to compensate for that vehicle being gone, but by the time the computer system gets used to it being like that, the vehicle is usually back on the track. That's what makes this problem so hard to fix. I wonder if the computer system could be updated to process changes faster. That might solve the problem.

Why would they? The ride is very popular and their is no justification to completely overhaul the ride and turn it into something completely new.
Theirs nothing to it, I've ridden it over 1000 times. Just like a movie, after a while it gets old. Although it may be good, you just get sick of it :-/

When a sleigh number is entered into the ride computer to be taken off the track, it is usually done while the sleigh is the station. The computer then increases the gap between the preceding and succeeding sleighs to allow ample time for the maintenance door to open and close and the track switch to turn. This is what causes the show to become out of sync with the sleighs surrounding the RV being taken off. The computer will delay the dispatch of sleighs in the load station and will create what's called "cascading," where the sleighs stop in scenes 7-11 as the next block isn't clear because of the dispatch delay. Same applies to a sleigh being added. The computer increases the spacing to allow for this.

Still, I doubt that they would change a story to a ride after all this money has been put into it and their is no consistent complaints about the story. That big of change from a successful ride isn't feasible or neccasary

I just want more props in the ride, a little more detail... It is awesome the way it is, but after a while reriding is... meh.

I do think that better technology exists these days to make the preshow look more like a magical tapestry that comes to life to tell the story. It does look pretty awful these days. I know LG just came out with a display technology that looks pretty life like. In my opinion the preshow doesn't honestly look like the tapestry comes to life like it is intended to. It looks exactly like what it is; an old projector projecting onto a board with tassels on it.
