The scene was removed to make the ride "more exciting", and to demonstrate how easily reprogrammable it is. Some other scenes were also changed slightly in 2006. The dining room scene was one of them. It's still pretty much the same scene except now the perspective is better and Ludwig doesn't cut off his head, it just floats on a platter. Here is a video with the all of the original 2005 scenes.

Robots = More down time

3D = More up time

Robots < 3D

Just saying, don't fix what isn't broken. In this case, this ride has done very well and it is enjoyed greatly the way it is why change it?

The layout can't be changed without a massive overhaul fo the ride which won't happen. The sleighs follow a rail-guided track. The entire ride system would have to be changed.

I think he means to just change the story. But even that would be a ton of work. And in reality does anyone even really notice the cart moving? Other than like spinning moments for when they change screens? It would be a massive overhaul though and would require a lot of work and money.

Has anyone seen the Nightmare before Christmas Overlay Disney does on the Haunted Mansion. Buying an set of scenes and adding some props would be a great way to keep it fresh.

Yes that's exactly what I meant. They said in the video when they updated the ride it was easy to do so what makes it so hard? They could easily spice up the story a bit and change a few speeds/movements while on the ride. Adding in some new facade pieces and some animatronics would do wonders. Back in the days of analog there damn sure would be a lot more down time with animatronics but nowadays with the digital technology we have it wouldn't be so rough. Changing up the lighting a bit and even making some of it interactive would be a great step also. Just a few thoughts...

So, not to bring back threads from the dead, but Darkastle's going under renovation this winter. What do you think we can expect?

While I'd like them to FINALLY add the heat and air-puff effects the ride so desperately needs (and maybe restore the water), I'm skeptical. Probably they're just going to re-sync the scenes, tune up the cars, clean the projectors/scrims, etc.

Is there supposed to be a blast of heat as you go through the "fire gate" on this ride? I always thought that there should be, but have never felt anything. Was just curious because someone else mentioned some things that they thought were wrong with this ride. Wind blasts and water sprinkles seem just fine as well as lighting effects.
