Complete anachronism, but after Tempesto, why not? They could do that type of interactive dark ride and theme it to.... Castle Wolfenstein 3D!

Shoot up some Nazis; great fit for an old castle in Oktoberfest.

JK.

^ Not dumb; shooting kegs is actually a pretty good idea. As is a competitive angle to it; they could allow you to track the leaders via an app. Plus, track wait times, etc. And they can mine all sorts of good data with the app.

@WDWRLD that's pretty much what the interactives we've posted...just different themes. They do (usually) end with a score recap. So nothing negative coming out of me.

@thopping , I believe the current vehicles are very similar to those in Maus. Inside of 2 ppl back to back you have 4 shooting in the same direction. I know it's not that simple, but I would think they could be programmed to be interactive.

I readily admit(ted) that I haven't ridden CoDK much... but their cars always seemed completely different than TSM/Maus/etc.

I think all of the ones referenced, other than CoDK, are two-way facing too, right? i.e. they spin around and you can shoot from either side of the car. CoDK is two rows facing the same way, and what seems to be a much bigger car.

"New at Busch Gardens WIlliamsburg Panzerfahrt !" A ride like no other, command, ride, load, or shoot from a Panzer as you follow Field Marshal Model into glorious VICTORY in the Arden forest with the opening shots of the Von Rundstedt Offensive! Be the first to spill Allied blood in the name of Des Deutschen Vaterland! Claim glory as you take out the inferior Allied Armor! Feel the call of VALHALLA as you ride to DESTINY!"

I'm going to disagree with some of the posters above and say I don't believe DarKastle's replacement will reuse its cars or ride system. For one thing, presumably DarKastle was closed in the first place because of the cost and difficulty of maintaining the vehicles and system. Plus, they just gutted the entire building, save for the cars sitting in storage. They wouldn't pay to remove the entire system and reconstruct a new one when they could have just retrofitted the existing attraction.

Well, @Joe I'll like that and really hope you're right.

But I'm thinking it will be a reuse of the cars, given SEAS MO. Plus, the same company made the Empire of the Penguin at Seaworld Orlando. Like Questor, it's another one of these motion simulator companies that branched out into entertainment--Oceaneering in this case--versus ETF or a company for which themepark rides are a core competency . So I'd look to other rides using their ride systems for ideas of the "art of the possible." (Caveat: I haven't compared CoDK to all of these to see just how similar they are).

Per Wikipedia:
Oceaneering has since developed motion-based dark ride vehicles for Transformers: The Ride at Universal Studios Florida, Justice League: Battle for Metropolis at Six Flags parks, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin at SeaWorld, and Speed of Magic at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, among others.[35][36][37] The company also developed animatronics for Universal Studios' Jurassic Park and Jaws rides.[38][39] The company also provides custom show action equipment for various entertainment projects, including Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Orlando, and Curse of DarKastle at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

@thopping I added above...they could all be shooting in the same direction. Grasping at straws but that's my thought.

@Joe Just looking at Maus and the other similar, they'd have to gut the place as it would be a much more sophisticated system with projection, scoring, etc. CODK also had many more screens than ones I've looked at. So, maybe just the cars can be retrofitted.

I honestly think it would be cheaper to install a new ridesystem with new cars for a toy story/Reeces Cup type ride. You really wouldnt need the movement that CoDK had and if you did want some mild hills or elevation it would be easier and cheaper to maintain having a fixed track that the car just rides along. BGW really does not have a great track record with retrofitting new texh to old ride systems.

BfE is what I am referring to. They spent a ton of time and money adding the VR to a old simulator system with what I consider mixed results as as reliability and the overall sucess of the attraction. I just think....and no I do not have any numbers on this.....it would be cheaper and more reliable to go to a vendor and buy the whole package as designed. Going to the same vendor and syaing we have these old ride cars we want you to modify your product to work on them is just not the best decision. You have to remember, the ride system is removed, the only thing they have is ride vehicles.

^ Completely agree. Admittedly, I have no idea what the relative costs are, but I'd much rather them just start over than try to reuse the Oceaneering tech. Even if it is SBNO longer. I'll gladly wait for something better, especially w/ other investments planned.

And I also agree with BfÉire opinion. Sorry, not a fan of it, and not because they misspelled the thing (though they certainly didn't gain any points).

Just underwhelming, and feels like it is the old tech that it is, IMHO. (Tech meaning the ride system--immersing me in new VR doesn't change the underlying motion experience).

As I understand, the vehicles themselves are a key component to the ride system. Following a magnetic grid, they're programmed to do things at specific locations. If BGW thought they couldn't be reprogrammed/used I'm sure they'd have scraped/sold them.

This was on Falcon's DarKastle page dated late last month -
Now Falcon’s Licensing offers this thrilling motion-based 4D dark ride experience, including Pre-Show and Main Show media content.

I would imagine that with the grid and tracks gone that you could build a whole new ride and experience from the ground up. So maybe a better comparison would be reusing the trains on Invadr rather then BFE which face it is pretty much the same ride rethemed.

I failed to post that, according to an article about Oceaneering, their entire system is proprietary, which is obviously why the control system was removed. Perhaps they gutted their circuit boards inside the vehicles, too.

Well there you go. Meet the all new CoDK, just like the old CoDK...

I fully expect a reborn 4D ride using the same ride system. It will be to CoDK as BfÉire was to Questor->EitA.

And as it turns out, Falcon Creative did the theming for both CoDK and BfÉire.

I can't wait.

(Sorry for the posts...wife is watching the Oscars. I'm not ?)

It dawned on me that today's interactives are accomplished by video projection. I thought it interesting that Wonder Mountain in Canada's Wonderland changes the ride from Guardian to Zombies for Halloween. The ride developer promotes "at the press of a button" to change the ride. Obviously queue lines and signage would have to be changed.

So, conceivably (with $$$) this could be 2 (or maybe 3) "different" rides. Your normal "family"; a scary Howl O Scream and (maybe, if you're good boys and girls) a Christmas Town edition. How cool would that be?

(And the Oscar goes to....blah blah)

They could mold a ride around following the journey of an animal or German person like Pip with Empire of the penguin which work with a newer version of the same system, and then for Christmastown Seaworld already owns the polar express product for wild artic right? Maybe they can move it over to BGW for a crazy slam bang mixture of DK, Empire of the penguin, and wild artic?
