don't know if this has been suggested before, but would an indoor coaster like revenge of the mummy be feasible for the CoDK building?

They could probably fit a coaster in there but it won't be nearly as big as Revenge of the Mummy as its building is bigger and much taller than Darkastle.

I agree @RollyCoaster . But I'm suggesting BGW spend some $$$. Lol.

I think something like Maus au Chocolat at Phantasialand - Theme park visitors step into what looks like a peaceful patisserie only to discover that the place has been invaded by a horde of mischievous and greedy mice – which they have to gun down quickly. Theme Park Review wrote: “What a blast! Armed with your chocolate blaster and 3D glasses, you are transported around 8 stages to shoot as many rodents as you can. The 3D was quite good with objects thrown at you and some effects appearing to float in front you."

With some minor cosmetic changes to make the outside less foreboding, it could be changed with a touch of whimsy.

I do think something like Maus au Chocolat at Phantasialand would be a great addition.

As splendid an attraction DarKastle was, it's impossible to deny that it experienced low ridership throughout its tenner at BGW. I think it's fair to conclude that this wasn't a reflection on the quality of attraction itself, but instead the limited reridability potential that it offered. An interactive darkride would be a huge improvement over DarKastle in that sense.

I would still bet a good amount of money on whatever attraction follows Project Madrid will involve the DK building and that area. I have a hard time seeing that area basically going untouched for much longer. Even though the ride itself is gone with the building having that much theming left over from the ride it almost counts as SBNO.

That was planned as a replacement but Project Madrid killed it.
While this is just a rumor supposedly when they switched from a traditional giga coaster to a launched shuttle coaster the idea of a dark ride replacing DarKastle was given the green light. Keep in mind this was simply a rumor that has been claimed in the past by a few mildly reputable source could easily change. However, a park doesn’t simply remove their multi-million dollar dark ride if they don’t have a plan for an attraction to replace it in the next five years.

they do if the cost of ownership far exceeds the earned value. If it needed a whole bunch of expensive work or if something critical for safety goes sideways, it may prove to be a fast shut down. Look at Volcano. Unless I am mistaken and missed some confirmed RUMINT, then we simply do not have the data to make bold claims like, "They have a 5 year plan and part of it is SBNO."

Not a rumor. I got this info first hand at IAAPA from someone that was working on it.

I was told in January 2018 around the time permits were filed to demolish the interior show scenes a new dark ride in the place of CODK was given the green light in the entertainment department. The most interesting piece of info was that the vehicles were being saved in order to be repurposed to alleviate the cost of the new dark ride.

This aligns with SEAS constant use of old attractions to save money and use pre-existing capital. For example, Gwazi was essentially cannibalized for InvadR, parts of wood were sent to SWO for a gift shop for decoration, and now the structure is being repurposed for an RMC. This rumor was passed down from an internal source that’s been fairly reputable in the past. Should be interesting to see what is happening inside the castle walls in the coming years...

The ride system for Maus is the same as Toy Story Mania - from a Dutch firm called ETF. The vehicles are "multi movers", basically the same as those in CODK.

Maus has 7 screens. It appears TSM has 5 (couldn't find an exact number). So the interior could easily accommodate a similar interactive. Now, just find a "fun for all ages" theme that works into a German Castle....

Ludwig is gone...and the Castle has remained abandoned for years. But Ursula, a friendly ice princess, wants to return it to it's original splendor. But before she can renovate she must get rid of the creatures that have taken over. Become part of the extermination team so Ursula can realize her dream of a splendid German castle.

With BfE being a hero's journey ride, I'd rather the DK replacement be similar to how DK went, which was more "experiencing the horrors". A proper sequel to the ride will always be the top of my list.

I could go that way...maybe something along the line of this haunted house in Tivoli -

Obviously, they couldn't use the same CODK vehicles...but this concept is amazing. Interactive, plus "with a push of the button" (and signage changes, etc.) a new ride!
I love the end...a drop!

^ Laff Trakk is too big of a ride for the space. I'd say the closer parallel from Hershey would be Reeses Xtreme Cup challenge.

In any event--that's my vote for a replacement... something like Reeses Xtreme/Toy Story Mania/Maus au Chocolat/etc. The park could really use an interactive dark ride, and really more dark rides in general--which are great both for cool season operation and as a break from summer heat, IMHO.

Alas, as I also think they'll reuse the ride system/cars, I'm expecting something that isn't that much different from CoDK as the ride system will be a big constraint, just like the sunk investment in the Reflectone/CAE motion simulator used in Questor->EitA was for BfÉire.

I know already everyone will say this idea is dumb and I will get negative comments, honestly what I would like to see is a ride somewhere in between Buzz Ranger Spin and Hershey Cup Challenge and who knows that may be exactly what the new rise at HP will be. A ride through arcade shooting game where you can compete for points. It can be German themed where you are shooting the kegs or something like that. That would give reridability because you want to keep trying to get a better score. Something like this to me fits the broadest audience and would be something that every member of the fimaily could ride together.
