It's great news, but unless BGW requires proof of vaccination, it's unclear how this could be used to justify a change to BGW policy. All of the reported changes are only for fully vaccinated persons.

This is the type of CDC guidance that COULD justify vaccine passports for BGW though. If everyone is vaccinated, they could operate basically fully maskless and largely without social distancing from the sounds of this AP reporting...

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday will ease indoor mask-wearing guidance for fully vaccinated people, allowing them to safely stop wearing masks inside in most places, according to a person briefed on the announcement.

The new guidance will still call for wearing masks in crowded indoor settings like buses, planes, hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters, but could ease restrictions for reopening workplaces and schools.

It will also no longer recommend that fully vaccinated people wear masks outdoors in crowds.

I'm sure the Gov will update his guidance based on this as well...probably say places like BGW can stop doing ____ when ___% of VA is fully vaxxed.

Personally, I dont care if they require proof of vax, I've got mine and I don't care about the "My FREEDOM!!" argument. But I also think it's over the top to keep all the social distance/mask wearing at BG which is mostly outdoors, until 99% (or some other super high %) of the country is vaxxed.

When are they going to open the water fountains? Were open until Dec. or something last year, surely we're past freezing? I waited hours for lines to reduce last Sunday so I would only need to wait 15 min. to get a cup of water. Of course this has to be about the only park with warm water in the bathrooms...
If you don't want to wait to get a cup of water or use a fountain you can get a bottle of water from one of the stores or cart vendors. BUT be prepared to pay $3.69 for a bottle of water this year (up $0.20) as that was the price I seen on the cooler in M-Sweets when I bought a bottle of water to have for the drive home. I wasn't too happy with this and I let the park know when I got a survey from them about my experience a couple of days later.

I think BGW is really in a grey area when it comes to the differentiation between indoors and outdoors. Yes the paths are outside, but many of the queues, eateries, shops, and stations are predominantly inside and fairly crowded without distancing. I think this complicates policy decisions for the park.

I agree with @Zachary that vaccine passports provide a potential solution to their problem, however.

The next three key things to me will be:
How long does the vaccine last?
What happens in groups that are and aren’t vaccinated?
What level of service refusing will exist for people who refuse to get the vaccine.

How do you classify the queues for the following?

Apollo's Chariot
Alpie
Invadr
Griffon
Verbolten

They are all open air, so I'd classify them as outside. Its the same thing as a tent at a wedding venue (as an example).

Closed off shops with doors are indoors, the rest are outdoors.

Oktoberfest - indoors
Marco Polo food area - indoors, dining = outdoors
Trappers - food area is indoors, eating is obvi outdoors
Pretzel - indoors
Pub - indoors

So masks on to get food at most places then take them off once you get out. Same thing with stores. Seems pretty easy to label which places are considered inside but it seems like the vast majority of the park is outdoors/open air.

The new CDC guidance is clear on this front: if you are fully vaccinated, you do not need to wear a mask in any setting—indoors or outdoors—except for a small selection of spaces (hospitals, shelters, etc.) and when traveling (flights/buses, etc.).

That makes sense in a way, but a large permanent structure somewhat blocking airflow outside with a relatively high capacity compared to indoor facilities with great airflow and a much lower capacity in the same setting makes it unclear what the actual risk is seeing as the science indicates exposure time and distance being the main factors in transmission via the air.

Not quite what I was referencing. Thinking more do they do masked shows and unmasked shows? What do they do if someone lies? Things like that.

What happens if someone lies is that they are at risk of being infected by someone else who lied. But the fully vaccinated people are not at risk in this scenario.

Now, there's a question here tied to children under 12 (who cannot yet be vaccinated), which I think will keep theme park spaces from being able to reasonably throw out mask mandates anytime soon given how much family demos are critical.

I think the Griffon queue is tightly packed with limited airflow on the inside. Similarly, I think Nessie’s stations in mostly enclosed. Those are just two obvious examples of the grey area I referenced.

Additionally, when it rains, it becomes even more complicated.

I am not advocating anything. I am merely pointing out that it isn’t as simple for the park as, “everything is outside.”

Yeah, pre-vaccination those were the two queues that always made me most uneasy (although I never sat through the Verbolten queue at any time where it was backed up into the ticket booth). Something about that final stretch of the Loch Ness queue feels really closed off, and Griffon's queue just feels claustrophobic.

Per Northams tweet, sounds like VA isn’t moving immediately to CDC guidance and will rather be reviewing it before changing policies.

Hopefully that review goes quick and in the cdcs favor, but I suspect that the review will say, on the side of caution we are disregarding what the cdc is saying

I wouldn’t call it disregarding if they don’t I act it right away. I’d be willing to bet there going to be a minimum vaccination threshold before Northam reopens everything.

The new CDC guidance only applies to vaccinated individuals. Why are people pretending like it changes anything in mixed vaccine status spaces? Without vaccine passports, businesses will likely need to keep mask mandates. I'm not clear on why these updates would change VDH's guidelines.

I don’t think that BGW will do passports because Florida and Texas won’t allow em, so how could they reasonably say that there is a need, when a hotter more populated state doesn’t require them, and those states still have decreasing cases.

Adding on, will there still be a mask requirement after the va one ends, probably. But also not for that long would be my guess.
