And once again, someone shows up out of nowhere to post rude and aggressive comments about an issue that is largely tangential to the main purpose of this Forum. Could we please just focus on parks and rides, instead of endlessly retreading the same ground about masks and the pandemic? There are places to discuss those topics; this largely isn’t one of them.

Also, everyone needs to remember the rule against personal attacks.

You are an idiot for thinking it’s a pandemic. And a hypocrite too. Because if you really think it’s a pandemic then maybe you should be scared to death and staying home.

out of curiosity did the CDC haxor the forums or????? I ask because if the message above his post.

Post flags for possible COVID misinformation have been in place for a long time now—they just rarely see use outside the General Discussion board (thankfully).

You can read through the panel's deliberation process about them, here:

Pandemic ? Yea sure, 99% recovery rate and less than 1 million people died from it, (at least that’s the stats the media will tell you, but probably lies) and the park is open but yea it’s a pandemic. Make up your mind, can’t have it both ways. If you are so scared to be around people during a “pandemic” then why are you going to the park? You are the ones that should probably be staying home, the hysteria is a big issue. Sad times.

Pandemic ?

An outbreak is called an epidemic when there is a sudden increase in cases. As COVID-19 began spreading in Wuhan, China, it became an epidemic. Because the disease then spread across several countries and affected a large number of people, it was classified as a pandemic.

So yeah, to answer your question, pandemic.

Setting aside the fact that the death rate in the United States is incredibly high, you numbers for the pandemic are incorrect. A pandemic is worldwide. Here are those numbers.

Change of pace (whew) with a question. I'm the guy from Ohio who is bringing his family to BGW in early June (from a few pages back).

With the trip coming up I noticed that the park seems to be operating a limited number of rides/attractions. Is this normal for early-mid May for the park, or is this an impact that the Covid-19 pandemic is having on the park? I know the F/W festival ends in late May, so perhaps that is when the park opens more attractions, or perhaps this is the result of systemic staffing issues faced by every park in the country. Just trying to get a feel of how normal this limited lineup is for BGW this time of year, or if it one of the countless ripple effects that the virus has had on our lives.

Hey again!

Yeah, the current situation at BGW is very abnormal. Typically basically everything (minus water rides, a couple shows, and sometimes a few very minor attractions) open with the park in mid-March. Not having every coaster, major attraction, transport ride, restaurant, etc operational by this point is unheard of.

We hope to see more of the park open by the beginning of next month, but given how unpredictable staffing has been, I'd wait for official announcements from the park before getting your hopes up too much.

Tempesto and Loch Ness are likely the next (big) attractions to be added to the lineup—it's just a question of when. ?

More kids rides opened this weekend with the Gliders and Eliphant Run. My major concern about the coming weeks is that what I am seeing looks like BGW is pushing to opens rides a lot faster then food service which could be a recipe for issues in the future.

Thanks, Zachary...this was my assumption. I'm not sure how much BGW relies on international workers, but the complete cutoff of that employee base coupled with the already daunting local staffing issues has impacted Cedar Point (even before they open) significantly with reduced hours, but so far all attractions are slated to be open.

At this point in our collective experiences, I would hope that most people are just happy to have an amusement park open to go to. We'll have a great time with whatever lineup is available.

All these years of relying on cheap international labor with poor benifits cooped up in that hotel they call housing is catching up to them. If all these years they took care of employees and made it to where they could make a decent living they would have a fairly solid employment base year round. Make it to where if you return season after season you make more, get more benifits.

I mean.....they can't get them because of travel restrictions into and out of countries, not because of what the pay/compensation/living conditions are.

I think @WDWRLD means that they should be offering good pay and benefits to domestic workers to assemble a loyal, happy, long-term, local workforce instead of relying on cheap imported labor every season.

I assumed he was referencing the international workers given the headline.

And while I don’t disagree with the “pay more instead of relying”; why not shift this program to college internships?

Heck even if I was a $5,000 stipend with housing payed for and 1-2 cheap meals a day I would have killed for that. I tried for Disney internship one summer in 07 and that’s what the offer on the table was.
