The answer to that might be in a confusing part of the email I got. Below the section where it said "Your Premier Membership has been upgraded to a Platinum Membership" and listed the new benefits (11 parks, four guest tickets, and 20% off dining) there was another section with contradictory info:

Those aren't normal Platinum benefits, plus the section right above said I now get 20% off shopping and dining, not 30%...so maybe these are what current Platinum members are "upgraded" to? Not sure why it was in the email I received as I wasn't a Platinum member before.

I got two different images in the email saying I got 20% off and right below 30%. I'm on the grandfathered premier membership plan from a few years ago when they first rolled that out as the highest tier before they changed it the next year to platinum membership being the highest.

That’s honestly hilarious. All of you grandfathered premier members are making out like bandits in the short term—getting all of the Platinum benefits PLUS all of the extra perks provided to “COVID Platinum” memberships is honestly absurd.

Kinda pisses me off as someone paying the standard platinum rate.

You don’t know the half of it. Thanks to @Thomas we finally got our hands on an email sent to a post-update Premier membership holder. They are being promised COVID Platinum perks as well. In other words, Platinum Memberships are getting ROYALLY fucked. In theory, this was a mistake, but BGW can’t backpedal on all of those Premier memberships now—they’ve been expressly told they’re getting 30% off, $50, and two free drinks just like COVID Platinum memberships.

Anyway, @Nicole is planning to write on this (and other really screwed up elements of this change) tonight. SEAS has managed to create a real shitshow here.

So basically the people on here complaining shouldn't really complain, because like when the passes became memberships, they are getting an absurd deal for taking the cheaper option?

My mom had two different pass tiers, the email included the upgrade perks for both and the Platinum perks promised at the end. I’m assuming the way the system generated these emails, all the new platinum members were counted as old ones?

If BGW honors these emails, yes, grandfathered premier membership holders are getting a legitimately insane deal here.

I dont see where I will make out on anything, we have the dining and drink plans so the discounts dont matter, we didnt even use most of our free tickets last year, we literally printed and handed them to some random person standing in line to buy tickets and the rerides and photos I probably wont use either.

How did I get a absurd deal, it was a huge price increase?

You're getting $50 per pass and two free alcoholic drinks. That's pretty sweet.

Not sure what you call lieing but when the park says you have to upgrade to their new membership programs because they were discontinuing annual passes but then not doing that to me is lieing. I also was not on some old annual pass rate. We outright paid every season for the annual passes so we were paying the up to date pricing each year.

I believe the key point is intent.

As the person who spoke directly with Marketing before they rolled out the program, I am confident that they fully intended to convert everyone over to Memberships. Within the first year, however, two important things happened:

1. The person running the the program left. It was clear that his replacements did not fully understand all of the complexities.

2. A deluge of pass holders complained, and the park caved.

I agree that the result is complete chaos, and unfair to many members. I do not believe, however, that it started in bad faith.

I was complaining on FB. I did not receive the email for some reason and thought that I was getting nothing really usable based on the info posted on FB. I feel better now thank for doing the parks job for them.

@Nicole asked for this in the Memberships thread, but I want to reiterate it here:

If you got one of these emails, please message @Nicole with what kind of pass you have, when-abouts you purchased it, and what benefits you are now being promised.

We are especially interested in finding people with legacy APs. If you have not upgraded to a membership or know someone who has not upgraded to a membership, PLEASE try to get us the email they received and what type of AP they have. We only have one example so far but holy shit, what is going on with that part of this is gonna make your blood boil.

My mom and dad are on this plan, I would argue that 20% and 30% in the same promo may have a value meaning 50% off. I definitely doubt that is the case, but it is a valid misprint by a short staff. Total legible argument with Guest Relations in the future..?
