That's a bit horrifying it's coming to that - my guess it'll be the small mom and pop parks that have recently unintentionally overspent on something new this year without knowing their gate revenue wouldn't make up for it... Not sure which park (s) this would be though

I’m not terribly worried about any of VA’s amusement/water parks right now—I think they’re all in relatively safe positions. I think the earliest signs of trouble will be from parks that were already seemingly on the edge before this like, say, Mt. Olympus, Camden Park, etc. Another high-risk group are likely those parks that rely almost entirely on Spring/Summer tourism and are sitting on really valuable real estate (often with huge lease payments)—think seaside parks out in Maryland, New Jersey, etc. No Spring Break and a much shorter and much quieter summer season could be a gut punch for parks like Jolly Rodger or Casino Pier.

I hope the amusement industry, along with tourism as a whole, really push back on that. If it's June 10th that they can open, it might take another 2-3 weeks to hire/re-hire staff, train/retrain staff, and get rides back up and ready to go. I hope tourism as a whole in Va puts the screws to Northam the minute this curve starts to bend the other way.
I don’t think anyone will need to force Northam’s hand. No one wants things shut down longer than they need to be. If the experts say it’s safe before June 10th, I’m positive the Governors will follow their advice.
Also, no, I don’t think parks need to announce that they’re planning to be closed for longer than they’ve previously announced. Mid-May is a long way off. No reason to keep changing it long before it’s clear that it’ll be justified.

Honestly I'm probably being cynical but I think that Northam is thinking about his political future. If he runs for another office he wants to be able to say that he took it seriously and he did what was necessary.
Ultimately I think the June 10th is a date that is too far in the future. Not sure why he couldn't just say 30 days and that it will be reassessed. To me this just seems like it will likely be rescinded earlier than that for a variety of reasons.
Sidenote: Everyone seems to think June 10th is pessimistic. Isn’t it optimistic? Wouldn’t that mean we would have flattened the curve some? Hundreds of thousands of lives could be saved if we’re still dealing with this in June.
Anyway, getting back to the parks—I think Disney and SEAS have the right idea now—close indefinitely and stop playing reopening date wack-a-mole. I don’t think the mid-May parks need to adjust their statements right now, but I think announcing mid-May was sorta silly.
