Assuming the choice to open AC for the first time ever during CT stems directly from some of the impacts of pursuing year-round operations. Alpie has been running nearly non-stop since August of 2020 apart from smaller breaks, and it's definitely time for some much-needed TLC in order to run again in the spring or even early winter.
While Verbolten and InvadR have become staples of the CT experience it will be interesting to see how they choose to rotate out coasters based on their maintenance schedules during the event in the coming years. I wonder if we may start to see some trains become cannibalized in order to support year-round operations and alleviate the stress for maintenance during these winter months of balancing an operating theme park and annual maintenance, similar to what we see at some of the Florida and Texas parks.
Regardless of any of the logistics, I am ecstatic to ride AC in December. There's a photo floating around from the mid-2000's of the ride running in the snow and the thought of rushing down the banks of a potentially frozen Rhine River as the sun is setting and the park is illuminated on the return run is more than enough to bring me to the event. Although, this ride is notorious for running horrendously slow in the cold so hopefully the normal riding experience isn't greatly impacted by the weather and it manages to stay open for the vast majority of the operating days.
