The dog isn't supposed to be for anything. They're an incredibly pointless and fairly distracting addition to the show.
The dogs appeared to be doing more then that the last couple of shows I saw. I was told by one of the trainers they recently added the dogs putting their paws up on the the bar when Mrs. Finnegan calls for lunch. According to trainers, they are switching out behaviors to keep it fresh for the animals.

This. Seriously. Please don't call PETA and say I'm an animal hater for this, and I do think the dogs are adorable, but I don't really like the dogs being in the show. They're totally unnecessary, take away from the performers, and really just serve as a cheap gimmick for the show. I love animals but if I wanted to see dogs do cute things I would walk the extra thirty seconds over to More Pets Shenanigans.
I was very psyched for the addition of the dogs to the show, but except for their coming for 'lunch,' and the occasional time they actually show the American cousins to the room I agree they are pointless and distracting. I usually try to sit in the front and from there you can clearly see the dancers having to glance down all the time to ascertain whether the dog is on point or in their way. Also the set poses at the ends of some songs are diminished in quality by the dogs always facing down looking for their rewards.
I'll be living in Dublin for the Fall semester, so I'll do some research and report back if any dogs guide me anywhere. For authenticity purposes of course.
I've heard rumors that because LR went so far over budget the park won't be producing a new show next year. Six seasons is a long time for a show but Celtic Fyre still doesn't feel tired yet.
The show will be coming back next year, but could have a different cast. It all depends on if Rockin Road to Dublin is able to go on tour of not. If it does they will lose several dancers.
Last night's finale was awesome. Me and some of my family and friends stood for a hour and thirty minutes, Well it was worth it for the spots in the front.
Even though this is one of the most popular and highly rated shows in the nation for theme parks Scott wants to get rid of it. It is a high caliber and experienced cast of award winning Irish dancers that know what performance is all about and take it to the next level. Every year they give the audience what they want especially for the last show of every season. The cast loves it and the fans love it but Scott hates it. Why does Scott hate performers who actually perform and give the fans what they want and have them coming back for more? Why does he hate a huge following that love a show and the cast so much? What the fans don't know is Scott demanded the stage manager to give the names of everyone in the show that "messed around" and to have "write ups" attached to their evaluations at the end of the day. Do it while you still can Scott. Time is almost up. But there is the possibility that Scott doesn't even know that yet. That's all I'm saying.
