NC seems to be allowing parks to open at 30% capacity—I doubt KD would be able to make this work at 1000 people.
If Northam were to change his policy in the next couple weeks to 30% or some other reasonable amount, KD would probably have to look at reopening Winterfest just to keep from losing business to BGW.
Curious to see people and vehicles moving around. Also, having a few Christmas lights and store lights on. NC was the last hold out after SC earlier allowed parks to open. The website still indicates closed for 2020. It would be an interesting development. We sure would like the see the new Intimidator paint job.
Not directly asking you, but did they actually hang up lights just to test to see if they still work or was it misinterpreted from the webcam footage that these were indeed Winterfest lights? Seems very strange that someone would put up lights to see if they work when you can just plug them in and see or wait until next year when you actually need them to see if they work.
I realize that I am chasing my own tail here, but very confused about this; however still curious as to what the heck was going on or not going on.

We are wondering if it is just lights from last year. Perhaps they didn't take them down rather than they put these up recently. We watched the webcam well into January of this year and the lights were still on at night. Seemed like an odd thing to keep doing with an electric but no patron income. Certainly not opening. But odd to see daytime activity and lights on at night.
It's possible that there was some debate before they ultimately decided that it was not worth it to open for such a short time period.

Well someone needs to get their story straight on if they are closed for the year or not, aye! I wonder how this would work with having to appease two states on restrictions and pandemic procedures?
Maybe they only open on the NC side since that's where the entrance is. My guess is that they just follow the restrictions which are stricter and just apply them to the whole park
Looking at the full listing of open positions I see what basically toll plaza and security the rest appear hotel related. I see no food services ride ops or even general park cleaning positions. This leads me to an interesting question could Carowinds be looking at some of drive through event possibly just using the parking lots? This might explain these limited job positions and their statement that they are not opening.
Or carowinds could be doing what BGW did during its first 2 mini events and just have the supervisors of each position do that job.for ex the ride supervisors would work as the ride ops, the guest service supervisor would work in the guest service building as the cashier and anything else, and so on for each position. if carowinds did do this it would make since because it would most definitely cut down on costs by a bit.
From my understanding, South Carolina’s theme park guidance has not been that strict at all. Carowinds had to wait on North Carolina’s guidance before reopening because their mailing address is in NC. Now that the NC Governor has allowed the park to open at a reasonable capacity, this has begun more discussions, and now we are seeing job postings with this disclaimer on them.
Screamscape actually reported the news first (link is a few posts above this one on my first post about this situation). They shared a screenshot of the camera having more Christmas lights up than the last time they had checked on it, and they expect an announcement to be made shortly after Halloween. My guess is their initial comment to Screamscape was to get them off of their trail. Then again, there is the chance that they actually decided on closing for the rest of 2020 and then they changed their mind again days later.
