Someone simply speaking Scott's name on their page is apparently grounds for a permanent ban. So sad.

I don't think you guys understand how the corporate world works.

I didn't even use names - I chose my words very carefully, but apparently not carefully enough.

RE: BGW's Facebook Page

So should we get the "mom and pop" people to come in and give it a wack? Or should we just rally to get more honest people to run their social media?

The scary (and probably good) thing is that they're not the only ones who handle their followers this way. So if they do change and start doing things with more civility and actually reply and listen to the people who are actually there to share their suggestions, they'll get a gigantic leg up on other parks in the market area (SFA, KD, HP, etc.).

You were obviously mocking him.

Oh, guilty as charged, without a doubt... I've seen far worse on that page, but they're obviously in a panic right now.

Perhaps their VP of Entertainment shouldn't be making such grand promises regarding subjective experiences at public events where he will most likely be caught on film...

RE: BGW's Facebook Page

Facebook? Stay away from there. A formal letter like that should really be sent via the regular mail or something other than social media for public viewing. It is way too long for that medium, and the average viewer can take too many things out of context. The ban probably was a move to avoid embarrassment for BG or it's management/employees, or at least that may have been what they thought they were doing. It could be a backlash. That comment I saw about "...being silenced/freedom of speech" was interesting.

In all honesty, I think people are overestimating the amount of time that they even spend monitoring the FB page. I've interviewed for the Sr. Publicist job before, and FB/twitter/youtube were mentioned, but not focused on exclusively. Here's a link (admittedly outdated) to a listing for a Sr. Pub job (http://www.bgwjobs.com/seaspubgeneral.html).

Now, I'm not saying that's an excuse (they need someone solely working on FB/Twitter/YouTube/the blog/Foursquare, etc), but perhaps gives some insight into why the FB page often seems neglected.

I've found that very small percentage of people understand that "freedom of speech" only prevents the government from censoring speech... a LOT of people falsely believe it guarantees their ability to say anything anywhere...

RE: BGW's Facebook Page

Freedom of Speech also does not cover "fighting" words such as cursing and threats. I am sure "agressive criticism" fits in there as well. But you guys do have to understand how the park is looking at this.
They want their employees to be treated with respect and most of the time they will defend their employees and decisions. If someone calls out an employee by name and relates it to something negative, no matter how agressive or not, it is still something bad about a specific employee. Yes if it were any other regular Team Member, they would be given a talk to in HR and in the mean time the park would say they will talk to that Team Member; however your talking about an executive who is more exclusive? Executives are supposed to set examples and be the main image of the company. If anyone sees anything negative relating to an executive it looks a lot worse. To protect the image of the company, they erase the comment and label it an attack against their employee, which is true, to a point.

I have had my fair share of talks with Bruce, the PR person in charge of all this and he does seem to be a real nice guy, but you can tell Social Media is more of a side job. It is not really something they go full on with. By the way, they are planning to open a new social media outlet, hint, it will rhyme with * Instagram* oh wait, it is :p Also look to their Twitter with other special talks ;) But my point is, they are expanding and they are treating like some other little thing. The sad part is, I really don't think you need to be qualified to do Social Media monitoring. I mean honestly, the only thing is you have to phrase things just right to sound good, but other than that it is something anyone can do. Let's face it, they have some one over qualified working on it as a side project. Traditional Marketing + Side Project = Terrible

RE: BGW's Facebook Page

Okay, seriously, way too many people think Jack is Back is a good show. However, there's a simple way to recreate the experience at home!

All you need is the following:
1 Pumpkin w/ carving kit
1 Roomba
1 Radio with FM frequency compatibility.

1) Take the pumpkin and carve a scary face. You'll be able to make your own face depending on which 'Jack' you like; anywhere from anywhere from "Scary Cartoony" to "Silly Cartoony". You can even go silly and create your own design. This year we're going to have Carmen Sandiego.
2) Tape the pumpkin to the Roomba and turn on. Please note that if you have multiple Roombas and pumpkins, you can have backup dancers as well.
3) Turn on radio to your local top 20 hits station. Hampton Roads members can turn to Z104.
4) Enjoy! All the fun and excitement of Jack is Back in your own living room.

Glad I have a Constitutional understanding too!

Gov't banning Chick Fil A = violation of Freedom of Speech. BGW Editing their Facespace Page =/= violation of Freedom of Speech.
