Wait they are charging you for preferred parking even if youre a Premier or Platinum member? What?

Technically speaking, what is now billed as General Parking is technically preferred parking, insofar as there is no tram. There has always been a section of England set aside for VIPs in season, although I’ve never understood why someone would spring for it.

The choice basically removes the preferred parking benefits for upper tier members for this event, which does rankle a bit, but ultimately I’m going to be parking in the same lot I was before, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Is there honestly that much difference in walking distance. Looking on a map, the average distance to the France parking lot can't be more than 50-100 ft greater (I'm basing this on the center point of the lot), which is effectively negligible. Neither lot involves the tram wait, which isn't trivial IMO, so going to one versus the other isn't a big deal in any way.

In the BeforeTimes, Platinum could use the employee entrance to the England lot, bypassing the terrible lines at the toll booths.

”Upgrading all members to preferred” effectively eliminates a great exclusive benefit that used to come with the higher Platinum price. I’m honestly getting tired of losing relative value, while still paying more for my top, tier membership.

And no, I am not so shallow that what I care about is feeling smugly superior, because of a theme park pass. What I do care about, however, is that I am actually getting additional value commensurate with the additional cost, and I would prefer not to lose benefits along the way.

They haven't been allowing use of the employee entrance during the limited capacity events. My understanding is that they will bring that benefit back once they officially reopen.

I honestly wish they would just fix the toll booth mess vice having to worry about having a benefit to get around it. I can’t think of any other park where 15-20+ minute waits to pay for parking are the norm. It’s frankly kind of ridiculous that you can spend an hour just getting into BGW and getting to the entrance with the tram, whereas say at KD that’s never more than 10-15 minutes even on really busy days.

The reason it has been taking so long at the booths is because they keep asking to see reservations. Then visitors have to spend time trying to bring them up on their phones.

BGW's toll booth problem predates the reservation system (note: on our last visit they weren't checking reservations). It's a mix of a slow somewhat manual process that creates a long cycle time (even for members), not having enough booths, and not being appropriately staffed for demand. Compare that to KD where they scan my pass, the photo is on the screen, and I get a receipt all in the matter of about 10 seconds, that greatly increases throughput since the line is moving for anyone not paying cash/card.

Honestly, if BGW said there new project for 2021 or 2022 was to fix this mess, I'd be as happy as them getting any new ride.

My point is that many people value the England Lot not for a sense of superiority, but because of the added convenience.
Last year I didn’t go through the main gate at all. There’s something so relaxing about going on that little winding road past the trees and landscaping Griffon subtly peaks up over the tree line, and then you get that small sliver of a view into France as you show them your pass at the booth. It makes the experince of going to the park feel so much more personal and calm compared to coming off the massive interstate ramp and being greeted with the roar of Apollo and Tempesto, which is the more epic, overwhelming entrance of the two. Both are very neat and have some great visuals, but the convience of pulling up to the employee booth with no wait and then driving straight into the England lot is unmatched.

Back to Christmas Celebration banter...hoping they manage to keep Alpie open for most of the event. With an earlier opening during the first session compared to normal CT hours and the ride running for over five hours before the night time session, it gives me hope that it’ll be able to power through the course. The new programming on the MCBR does worry me that there is a chance the ride could valley in the second half if it’s below 40, as it already crawls through that part of the course on most cooler days in the Spring and sometimes even in the Fall.

The last two weekends they didn't check my reservation: they made sure I had one, but they didn't actually check it. But that was probably a byproduct of the fact that none of those sessions actually sold out of reservations with the increase in capacity, meaning that if someone got to the gate without a reservation they would have just sent them up the hill to guest services to get them a reservation or let them in.

Did you hear? Gov.‘s executive order will allow 4,000 people at each session to attend the Christmas Event.

Yup. Actually been out there for almost 2 weeks. It only just got out there because BGW did press thing and told them about it. Attendance was actually higher than 1000 this last weekend

Has anyone spotted the usual heated tents for extra outdoor seating? And is Pretzel World the regular pretzel shop next to Verbolten? Why change the name?
