Honestly at this point just shut it down. I know its a cash grab for BGW, but it will do more harm to their reputation than the sales they will make.

I understand this will likely cause downvotes and be a hot topic, but the fact its become a running joke about how many brawls will happen and a weekly event on the news makes me believe it would be better left on the shelf.
I don't think it's quite to that point yet as I think there are steps that can be taken that can reverse the situation and fix it. But if intervention isn't done soon it definitely could be headed that way.

This is an annual occurrence though; it isn't new to BG this year. There have been some good suggestions in this thread and I know BG has instituted some measures like the bag check and metal detectors but obviously its not enough.

Intentionally lowering attendance
I like this idea. Having to buy a ticket in advance with a limited number could work, especially on Fri-Sun. Weekdays could be open to pass members, but weekends would be blacked out and require a separate ticket. I doubt any teens/young adults are scheduling a Busch Brawl months in advance, especially if it costs them $$$.

BGW actually currently has multiple private security guards and uniform officers in every hamlet for Howl-O-Scream. My understanding JCCPD also has begun using plain clothed officers around the park as well.
Thanks for this info! Glad to hear that the park has implemented way better security measures with the higher number of security people in park than what they had just a few years ago. Of course it seems like there are more problems occurring but that could be due to better reporting also. I may actually go in the next week or two (weather depending) as I was debating on whether to go it HOS at all this year and just wait for CT.

If you think PRKS will choose saving the reputation of a park over making money, you clearly don’t know Scott Ross and Co.

On Sunday (Sept 15), the day after the incident; Security was using wands in addition to the metal detectors at the entrance. JCC police were visible throughout the park. There was a larger security presence throughout the park.

We are also assuming the stabbing used a metal blade, however there are plenty of rigid plastics that could be formed into a blade as well as ceramic/alloy blades that may not activate a metal detector. Those with bad intent will find a way.

Saturday we witnessed people passing something over the fence from the England lot to the queue for Killarney Diner. It appeared to be a can of something, presumably alcohol, but I couldn't be certain.
Why that queue is that close and why that's not double fenced so not one can pass anything thro.....

....you know what never mind. It would cost money so they won't do it.

This is especially crazy because it requires a certain level of premeditation and coordination to do this. You have to be familiar with the park layout and the Killarney Diner queue location, and you have to plan ahead with another group to slip something illicit in through that weak point. Sounds like these aren’t just random hooligans causing trouble on whim — these are folks deliberately coming to the park with a plan to subvert the rules. Wow.

Theme parks have been immensely lucky over the years, and one day, I feel very soon, that luck is going to run out on a tragic scale.

Can't stop everything bad everywhere from happening, but too many parks, BGW included, seem to rank guest safety as #1 in hyperbole, where in reality, its job #4 or 5 (earnings, revenue, shareholder happiness and advertising ahead of the list).

Emergency response drills and tabletop exercises go a long way to at least unify park management and local law enforcement of what needs to happen when the public is involved and rushes the exits without calm and order due to various threats. A single BB-gun popping off in succession can wreak havoc on people's perceptions of a situation in an environment like BGW, and I am certain the park is ill-equipped to deal with this. BGW will need to invest in designated shelter-in-place areas, mobile app emergency notifications, and audible announcement tech in order to keep the GP informed. Mishaps in large crowd settings occur more-often than not simply because there are no systems in place to give people info and options for any given situation. The GP plays a role in this aspect as well in situational awareness and common sense (low in quantities these days, yes I know) - but the park must do all it can to give emergency management the tools it needs to ID the threat, respond to it, and nullify the risks.

ALL parks need this level of holistic management. How many are willing to go the distance *before* X mass-emergency occurs? My sense is few to none, because of what I just said at the beginning of this post: "immense luck."

Allowing BGW be the test-bed for bad actors to see how far they can get means something is wrong where it doesn't have to be.

Probably a can of beans or soup since the park food is far too overpriced and low quality.

Yeah there is actually a massive number of security and law enforcement for the event. JCCPD actually even has a mobile command center setup in the area by the drop off lanes. If this was simply a security visibility issue it would have long ago been fixed a long time ago. Fridays and Sundays have been pretty tame so far but I would avoid Saturdays if at all possible.

If the fence statement is true (not denying that it happened), then Busch needs to fix it asap. That's exactly how the gun got into Kennywood 2 years ago.

I haven't seen it happen, but it is VERY, VERY possible. I've taken many a photo through the fence line in question and on HOS nights I've been to far this year, I've seen no security presence along the fence.

This is exactly the fence spot that came to mind when reading the question of how knives, etc. get into the park. It would be super easy to throw something over into the bushes during the day and then pick it up later.
