New article from the Orlando Sentinel with SWO President Terry Prather:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/travel/attractions/os-cfb-talking-with-prather-20140728,0,4249557.story

He hits the talking points, no surprise there. A bit unrelated to the Blackfish discussion, but worth mentioning - he does admit Antarctica wasn't marketed properly. I'm not sure calling us "theme-park junkies" was the right term, however.

So has anyone else seen that seaworld was trending on facebook? The Blackfish facebook page posted that "SeaWorld's stock is down over 33% today!" The comments are gut wrenching to read. The people that posted have also said to support freeing service animals. There have also been my favorite post, " drains the tanks and free all the fishes. F*** SEAWORLD" (Edited) I'm not a marine biologist by any means but I'm pretty sure if you drain the tanks you gonna kill the fish jacka**.

According to the 100% real news site, The Onion, the parks are addressing some issues regarding Blackfish.

So a Blackfish post made it to the font page on Reddit. I jumped in and they clearly respected my input...

Just kidding!

Yes, but the profits SeaWorld brings in allows them to do more than nonprofits.
Is currently at -11 points.

I've worked at a rescue facility, I have the experience to know that SeaWorld had the resources to do lots more and that the content of the movie is full of crap.
Is currently at -8.

The below statement is in the company's 2nd Qtr 2014 SEC filing 10-Q form.

Trends Affecting Our Results of Operations

"Our ability to attract and retain customers depends, in part, upon the external perceptions of our brands and reputation. Adverse publicity concerning our business generally could harm our brands, reputation and results of operations. The considerable expansion in the use of social media over recent years has amplified the impact of negative publicity. Recently, our business and SeaWorld-branded parks, in particular, have been the target of negative media attention, particularly in the state of California where legislation was proposed in March 2014 seeking to restrict our ability to display certain animals in that state. We believe we are experiencing demand pressures, particularly in California, partly due to such media attention. We have introduced and are considering a number of initiatives to address public perceptions and raise and protect brand awareness."

Wow, the media are a bunch of idiots. Typical. This is why you never trust the big named mainstream media.

I agree. Look at the whole Tony Stewart incident. Blackfish is the same way. Media twists different industries into how they feel they should be or should be interpreted at the least. Reality is, as I have said a many times, SEAS treats their animals well, VERY well. They have the best life of nearly any marine animals in captivity.

The film was a cashgrab and nothing more than that at a company's expense and these creature's expense. There is no backlash to other aquariums that still have trainers in the water with them. One in Japan is the first that comes to mind.

I still stand by BF being a portion of the overall decline of SEAS. Other factors with quality have been a much larger driver than anything BF related.

^ I was surprised to find some compelling and reasonable comments posted to that article. I assumed, being Huffpo, that the agenda of the commenters would be singularly negative about SeaWorld.

Assumptions are evil jonquil :) I am a master machinist who deals with the assumptions of engineers on a daily basis. I haven't been to Seaworld in almost 30 years. My only surviving memory of it is the 'feeling' that I wanted to be somewhere else. But that doesn't mean I don't respect their American right to have really expensive pets. The comments are lovely aren't they :)
