Can someone please direct me to an image of how 1960's London looks? Through this entire debacle, no one has mentioned any specific types of architecture designs that might fit into the area. I have seen that the "paint is cheap" statement made a few times but I want to know exactly what the architecture is like compared to what the hamlet's current architecture is like.

I found a photo set on flickr ill post the pics and link for Monday evening when im not on mobile. If its anything like I saw it will be like dropping a spaceship in the middle of Banbury Cross.

1960s London, if done accurately, would be a hodgepodge of architectural styles from at least the Fire of London through the mid-twentieth century, possibly including earlier elements, as well.

The decor, however, should be a mix of 50s, mod, and psychedelia, at least.

From what I understand it isn't necessarily "1960s London" that the retheme is creating, but a psychedelic version of the existing hamlet with giant peace signs, hippie symbols, tie died graphics, and things of that nature. Don't expect vast architectural changes to actually make the area look like real 1960s London. While I am sure there may be some modifications to existing structures, from the sounds of it, it will be like an LSD trip gone bad vomited on Banbury Cross.

This plus the obnoxious amount of bedazzling and glitter, hope they have nausea areas set up like smoking areas.

I m so glad Shane feels the same way as most of us, it be like going and painting Stonehenge with pretty pink n blue bears on it, you make it an eyesore. Where's the big Disco ball and confetti n glitter cannons going that someone loves so much.

Thanks for the clarification on the re-theme.

Sounds atrocious. In light of that info I will just post the link I found for examples of 1960 London architecture instead of posting the pictures. Don't want to offend the poster of the page by using there images.

Ok so with the retheme/rebranding of BGW BANBURY CROSS too look all GROOVY for LR, maybe the park should add in a lil ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS (Edina&Patsy) even though not from era as British Invasion, but their twisted humor could help guests laugh for a serious joke, rather than this SG platform shoes, glitter, Beatles hairdos, and what nots.

I still wish just the show place get rethemeing , like how I said before, walk in thru a DR WHO TARDIS, blue phone booth, and as you walk in BOOM themeing and like small memorabilia museum from that era. Maybe even some hosts playing along to work us up, before doors open pass the lobby. Than we can have the glitz n glamour of HONEY SCOTT GOO GOO, inside.

When my family and friends always get picture taken right inside the England areas, some photo ops at opening are closing, makes you respect how it looked an THE OLDE COUNTRY, and years, what an upset that now gonna have GROOVY DECOR, when you enter.

People who may or may not like it, I was wandering with BGW in JCC, if there was anyway that area is or could be marked as a Historical Site, and than Execs, Mgrs, suits, could only repaint it as is, with no bright colors, like a bag of skittles just got blasted everywhere, mixed with psychedelic obnoxious colors, and the UNION JAX, just had a baby and threw up everywhere.

Sorry rambling, but thinking of how to keep it as is, and just do the show area. If the show flops than there goes the change of putting back like it was. Especially during HOS and CT. I guess HOS will be creepy banished hippies, who followed the whatever group around. And gues CT will be like HH but more fluorescent lighting.

Please do not ruin BC, put it in the theatre like a time warp

I feel as though the park is in a very weird place right now, trying to modernize/mass appeal(ize?) their European theme for the Millennial generation. Many people I went to school with would often complain about the pre-industrial theme throughout the park, and while I will more than agree that people who would prefer The Beatles to Banbury Cross have no sense of class, I feel as though the park is increasingly finding itself in a position where they need to appeal to such people. The people who preferred the park as it was are thinning out. They're aging and going to the park less. Many have just gotten to the age where they have little interest in going to theme parks anymore. Meanwhile, the population just continues to shift to the newer generations that tend to much prefer Harrison over Handel. What I'm trying to say is that the park is trying to appeal to the youth, because in the long run it will be better for the park. Businesses have to adapt and appeal to their typical consumer, and the typical consumer for Busch Gardens (and theme parks in general) is changing. While I agree that Scott tends to operate in a rather gaudy manner, his ideas are more or less on the right track, strictly in a business sense. I personally prefer the old park as it is what I grew up with, and I also come from a very old-fashioned family, but looking at these changes I can certainly understand why they are happening.

I have to disagree that the general population of today dislikes the pre-industrial theme. If you look around at pop culture, things like "Game of Thrones" and "The Tudors" are very popular and are receiving very high ratings and critical acclaim. I would argue that parts of the park are actually set during the industrial age such as Aquitaine and are in approximately the same time period as the Emmy Award winning television series "Downton Abbey."

I feel like the park can invest, grow, and improve without abandoning its original concept and premise. I would go even further to say that when the park opened in the 70s people didn't prefer Handel at all. In fact I am certain the 95% of the population that visited the park in the 70s did not listen to classical music at all just like today. Its not about a preference of Handel over Harrison, its about creating a timeless environment that makes you actually feel like you are being transported to a different world. I don't believe that it has anything to do with a generational shift.

I think the real problem is the park trying to shoe horn content into the park that does not fit, and not investing in and improving what they have.

As a teenager, if you think that Beatles are going to attract young people like me you're crazy. And I have multiple talks with people at school and they say they love BG because it is unique compared to most other amusement parks. The only way they will attract teenagers is if they re-theme the whole park after Jay-Z and Katy perry which will never happen. So in the opinion of a teenager I think the park is actually on the wrong track, and I could find so many others that agree with me.

Very true coughScottAchoo, sorry allergies, I don't want BC TO CHANGE! I guess all we can do is wait until you see the concept artist work that's been drawn up.

I m wandering how many more disco lights and disco balls and glitter areas do we need. BC has such a charm to it for many, and now it's gonna be like Austin Powers kinda Scott's shagadelic stage. No way, however we can only wait and see, it's not just management it's the upper suits who wanna do rebrand/retheme. It started a lil with HOS more adult bars, different ideas that didn't get fully done due to budgets. BGW is trying to work in not just drawing in the family groups, but now the more I call it single social media group. Sometimes business sees there is a group we aren't reaching, so go for it. My nephew is 26 loves the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and so guess whoever high up suggested something and SIR SHIMMER N SHINE Scott took it and ran with it.

Also, just maybe it's gonna be mixed in with what's to come who knows possible expansion of area so can add rides to England area, don't know. Just wish could keep the same but maybe change could be bad or good.

I just miss THE OLDE COUNTRY feel of BGW, and also it's not just here BGT is getting shunned by rethemed parts.

My fear is it's too much in an area all at once you know blend it in slowly.

I had been noticing this, too. It feels as is booze and burlesque are slowly taking over HOS. I know a lot of people like that stuff, but "adult" attractions should one element, not the overwhelming theme.

In my opinion, even if HOS became an adult-only event, it should still be more about the scares and less about the party.

(Sorry, this probably doesn't belong in this thread.)
