Well, CK's concept art did include Willy Wonka... so I guess this is fitting.

We walked through BC last night and really the pictures do not do it justice. I still do not mind the flags, but the new facade on the Globe is just gaudy, and I honestly don't see the reason for the paint job on Union Jax. The window, itself, is fairly hidden, making the addition that much more gratuitous.

On the way out, when it was getting dark, the entire hamlet turned into a giant glowy thing. While I will admit that the colored lights did suit the new decor, it just made me feel as if I was in some retro 70s dance club...the kind based on cheesy stereotypes.

Y'all know I am not one to oppose changes based on nostalgia or a belief that the park can't evolve, but what they have done in BC looks like a mishmash of clichéd images from the 60s and 70s. It is to the 60s British rock n roll scene what Hot Topic is to punk rock.

I have never loved Heatherdowns as much as I did last night.

Nothing flows in Banbury anymore. It just doesn't have a clear theme. The music being played, tells me I'm in 60's/70's/80's England, and so do the flags. But the architecture, excluding the front of the Globe, still tells me I'm in Victorian England. After taking a look at Union Snacks, it really wasn't as impressive as pictures made it seem, there were only 3 Coke 360 machines, and the interior had almost no theming except a union jack painted on the wall. The exterior didn't look bad, all though the red rap, with the Union Jacks on the side, is a little too much for my liking. Also, by the end of the day, all the Union Jacks on the sides of the buildings were completely wrapped around their flagpole, and it was barely even windy yesterday.

I will now comment on the re-theme having seen it in person. My thoughts upon entering were different than leaving. Entering the park, I was not happy about the music. I liked the flags much more than I thought I would. The front of the Globe would be more interesting/inviting with only the guardsmen and flags, instead of the paint explosion. The bus didn't bother me, except for the amount of space it took away from a crowded walkway. Leaving after dark was different. I must have liked the music because my wife and I were singing along. (there was no mood to be set by it. Our mood had already been established.) Nothing really bothered me about Banbury while leaving. The colors and lights mixed with the flags was certainly different, but I wasn't grossed out or anything. I guess my mood has more to do with my thoughts about this stuff than the actual changes themselves. I did leave the park wanting to return, which means I wasn't totally grossed out.

I had a similar experience. When I came through the turnstiles I was thinking "what have they done to my beautiful Busch Gardens?" By the time I left I thought "you know...this fits the new theme."

It's not Banbury Cross. It's not even England. It's "England".

I absolutley hate the fact that I cannot sit on the steps of the Globe anymore as I want. Relaxing on those steps at the end of the night has always been a big part of my day; I have enjoyed being able to people watch, look for friends, be seen, etc. while enjoying a cold root beer (diet now available at the Coke Shop). Those little fences make me sad. :(

I was going for offensive... But what you said is probably more accurate.

I have said before Heatherdowns is the best! (and not entirely because of Nessie and the animals)
