Anaconda Slated for Demolition

Just realized the worst of this: KD was set to break their previous/current record of 6 coasters in one ridiculously small, single themed area and now that's delayed or may never happen.

The best part is, even though everyone will be going "what will they put over the lake next" they probably won't remove the lake if it doesn't receive a ride.

I predicted they wouldn't do anything that might mess with their big year next year, maybe shouldn't have said that out loud.

Good point, but Splash Island was an exceedingly modest addition, and it's so small that it could conceivably be moved. Plus, Splash Island was literally the last "major" addition to the north side of the water park. Since then, they've demolished Tornado, removed the little market they also added in the middle of the lazy river in 2015, and gutted the old restaurant by the north side changing rooms. The only other investment I can think of into that area was that Freestylin' was repainted sometime around 2017.

Meanwhile, during that same time period, investments into the south side of Soak City have included Hurricane Heights, the Beach Street dining area, an updated Sharky's restaurant, a repainted Pipeline Peak, a new water play feature by Pipeline Peak, Coconut Shores (Lighthouse Landing plus Sand Dune Lagoon), a new cabana area, and an updated entrance area around Tidal Wave Bay.

That'll make 2015 a full decade since any noteworthy investment into the area, along with a decade of steady removals, while the south side has been plussed up significantly. I don't know what the park or Six Flags has planned for the future of the north side of Soak City, but there's a clear pattern that suggests to me that they've planned (at least at one point) for the future of Soak City to all be behind Racer 75.

They also updated the restaurant & painted Baja bends in the north side of the water park, but I suspect we're both providing anecdotal evidence. The idea that six flags would restore the lake without any large marketable addition associated with that is wishful thinking

Pretty sure CP has more than 6 coasters in the Midway area, though it's not as small as Jungle X.

There's a decent chance these decisions were made very recently due to poorer than desired financial issues, vice a desire to pull one over on guests.

Considering both parks are still open for the season, the ride closures aren't being done lightly. Most likely these rides were already prospectively on the chopping block, but some internals made SF realize they needed to take action sooner than later.

I don’t really care what the reasoning, they need to stop removing major coasters without giving people a chance to get one more ride in.

IMHO, Jungle X-Pedition does not need another coaster. At least for a while. It’s already stacked with six while other areas of the park, especially the west side, have far fewer. Not to mention if Anaconda were to stick around, half the park’s entire coaster lineup would be crammed in this section.

I’d prefer instead for KD to do what some others have suggested and move the north half of Soak City to south of Racer 75, and either bring the lake back to full size or use the land left behind for a new area and rides, and have a coaster there.

To be fair Shockwave got a repaint with a new color four years before its removal. Baja Bends’ repaint has been around for almost a decade.

Wouldn't Reptilian be the snake temple? I feel like Tumbili, Rapterra, Reptilian, Panterian is the 4 (well and Arachniada technically).

That kinda leaves FoF and BLSC being non-temple themed rides.

so any idea where the trains will end up? keep in mind Anaconda has the small 7" wheels and not the larger 9" mega looper wheels.

Probably on some other Arrow in the chain. Looks like it used the regular 9" road wheels, pretty sure the only ones that used the 12" road wheels were the actual 'mega loopers' (those being Viper, GASM, and Shockwave).

personal i believe that every park needs to record their Arrow lift and play it on the lift hill of the next coaster they build.

Sorry i got my wheel sizes mixed up, 9 & 12 I don't know where I got 7 & 9 from. The Hyper's like magnum also used 12"

Same, but only if they built enough new rides to offset the amount of people that the water park normally gobbles up.

Ryan the Ride Mechanic has a great video on what happens to rides being removed from parks. High value items like trains and lift motors get removed and placed in other parks very quickly or sold.

Found this picture on instagram, looks like they started gutting the station and they took the exit ramp as well. I wonder if this means the station is getting demolished too? I figured they would just knock it down if they were getting rid of it completely this seems rather careful demolition, though honestly I don’t know how this usually works. All I do know is that is much different from how they handled the hypersonic station which is still mostly in tact.

This is actually incorrect.



Hypersonic's three air compressors that are still used for the parkwide air system are housed in a building that ran parallel to the final brake run. You can see the building and volume tanks (circled in red).

The station (circled in yellow) and its ramps are still standing but it's simply a deck and roof.

That station would actually make for a cool covered seating area or bar, with its high-up views of Pantherian, the back part of Jungle X, and the lake. I hope someone at the park considered the possibility of repurposing that station instead of just taking a wrecking ball to it.
