Montu is in Tampa. It isn't hot in December, but it is still fairly warm.

And I have ridden Griffon and Bolt at CT. Very cold, but very fun.

Might as well ask this now. Is a coaster even fun in winter? The wind in your face would be so cold. The fastest I have ridden in winter would be a scrambler.

I rode Alpengeist while it was lightly snowing on Passholder Preview Day about 6 years ago. The forecast called for cold temps that day so I went prepared wearing long johns under layers. I also wore a skull cap and a thick hoodie so I was wrapped up on the coasters. The wind in the face wasn't bad on the as long as you didn't ride in the front seat. The rides themselves were fun but you can tell the coasters weren't running that fast in the cold temps. Alp's lift hill trim brake was off and the mid-course was barely grabbing the train.

So I got to hear how unbearably loud Alpie's lift hill is. By far the loudest lift hill on any roller coaster I don't remember it being like that last year during HOS.

I also got permission to bring my GoPro on the ride and you can definitely hear how loud it is in this video. Sorry for all the "Weees!" My friends and I were goofing off LOL.

^As loud as that lift hill is, I find the sound of the trim at the top grabbing the train way more annoying!

If its op panel is anything like Bizarro's all you need is a specialized key to turn the trim off. Bizarro's is always off unless the train absolutely skips the shimming on the MCBR, even then we kind of ignore it cause air time out of the blocks is pretty freaking sweet.

My comment was a sarcastic remark at the lift hill trim being on at all. I want opening year Alpengeist back (lift hill trim off all year and mid-course barely grabbing the train).

I have to admit I'm not sure I entirely understand the objection to the clicking noise.  It has never bothered me, even in the front seat.  My only complaint is the slow bit at the end.

I love Alpie. The climb hill ruckus does not stop me, but I know it was designed to be silent. Even if it can never be silent again, I hope someone will investigate.

Ditto. Alpengeist is still my favorite roller coaster in the entire park. I still would've loved to ride it opening year. Look at all the pacing the ride had!

While I know the net on the Immelman is there for safety reasons, I think it looks cool with out it.

Alpengeist is my favorite ride in the park. The way it shot through the MCBR for those last too inversions is awesome. I wish I could've rode it back in 97.

Alpengeist in 1997 was unreal. The pacing of the ride with minimal braking was super intense. In fact it got quite a few complaints from regular visitors which caused the park to horribly brake it the following seasons. It really felt neutered in 1998, especially after riding it countless times opening year.

However, since the change I've gotten about a dozen or so rides over the years where it went back to 1997 mode where the lift trim didn't grab and the midcourse was very light. I'm sure this wasn't intentional but I sure wish it would happen more often.

I hope the park revisits this each season. Audiences change over time as perhaps represented best by Doc Money's post: http://forum.parkfans.net/thread-3325.html. I do not think a giga coaster is in the cards making it hard to compete with KD in that area, but it would be interesting to see the park market that all coasters have been re-tuned for maximum fun. Next year is the 40th anniversary...

Alpie was running great on Sunday, 6/15. We made one run in the back early in the afternoon and a run in the front row as the Sun was setting. The speed was as fast and the ride as smooth as I ever remember. However, with no prompting from me my 3 friends in the front all fired air machine guns as we climbed the lift hill. I had to LOL. The noise was hardly noticeable in the back. Yea, Alpie!
