Here's a closer shot. If the contour lines are accurate (which I'm sure they would be) it looks like the total change in elevation from the path to the bottom is five feet. Drainage perhaps? But the buildings are obviously new.

^ It appears to be an expansion of the existing amphitheater behind the pathway.

Bid alternate 5 is to add an asphalt path, a bunch of fencing, and what looks to be a new 60' x 60' stone foundation for the stage. I don't think this has anything to do with any future expansion or attractions, just some improvements to the festhaus park area for the events held there. Which leads me to believe they intend to use this area for some time for these types of events.

I see this being a bit more feasible than the 2014 coaster. I really doubt they would build 2 coasters 2 years apart. The first coaster would still be marketable when they would build the second. But further expanding or revamping oktoberfest is alot more believable. They could market all these new additions for a few years to bring in new crowds.
edit: unless one of these coasters is an "entry level" coaster and the other is something "revolutionary" i may see the dual coaster thing possible. A coaster to replace what bbw was and another to be the top coaster is plausible in my book

I heard from a source before I even joined this site that there was sposed to be a back to back coaster expansion along with a huge park expansion "In a few years". This was before blackstone and before removal of the wolf... Other details of this "rumor" have yet to be proven true, But we have heard from other sources that this back to back coaster thing might have been slightly altered, and that apparently it does have some kind of validity.

Now next this is just speculation from what I know as I no longer have contact with this source but I'm guessing the budget was cut on this said expansion and the time this expansion was taking place was... Expanded.
Instead of back to back coasters, it may very well be 2012 and 2014. Instead of a new country, we might just get Expansion/Renovation to Germany. All I know is that the plans are similar but they have definitely changed.

From what was told to me the launched coaster was going in a new country...

Also I think it has been confirmed they are testing the train tracks for a new train stop...

KTM, take a good look at Alpen and Apollo opening dates.

Youhow, they have been testing for a new stop but VERY casually from what my source told me. The big problem is train green though. Ole girl doesn't have any torx haha.

Why would they need to run uber crazy test on the train?

As far as I know it's one of those things you can casually test while you evaluate your options. If they decide they really need that station there, Leveling out the land/track shouldnt be too much of an issue and changing the grade of the track directly after the station shouldnt... More of an investment, but not too much of an issue if you ask me.

Train green would need the big testing. It's wheels are so small that when it is fully loaded it can spin bad! they have yet to test green with a full load start and stop on the hill. It does somewhat fine with little to zero passengers but not loaded.

Ah... would it be easier to level it out for train green, modify greenie, or get rid of greenie. Maybe they can just have it pass through the new station if anything. Put it in the middle of the other trains. It would double the wait at the station and confuse the hell out of guest, but it's better than nothing...

I have a real hard time believing there will be any new type of coaster for the next 3 years following 2012.

that's sort of what I was wondering about. Considering we've heard almost $50 mil for next year's coaster. That's quite an investment.

Well with Blackstone selling their 30% stake in the Universal parks, they do have some additional cash...

They had 50% share in the Universal parks. Still, they have lots of money. I wouldn't think they would put too much of that back into the parks, but Seaworld has made a lot of investments in their parks over the last couple years...

Honestly I don't want to see a new coaster. I'd much rather see it in improvements throughout the park or put towards some type of expansion.

Just to throw this out, they are redoing all of the piping for the span of track contained in Festhaus park. If they are building they would need to get re-piping out of the way early so the ground could settle for construction. There is no other re-piping taking place anywhere else on the route. Just throwing that out there. Jeez talk about an edit! Haha

Could that be in preparation for the rumored 2014 coaster?

If we do get a new coaster, I would want a flyer like Tatsu, or something like Kumba (except a standup). Those additions would still keep the wide variety trend Busch has.

Naw, i got him! He just went to happy hour early! (I often post after happy hour-ing)

@AlMS7TH, I would LOATHE a standup at BG. But I could TOTALLY go for a flyer. Or another, more intense sit down. I could also got for a floorless B&M but highly themed and low to the ground. OH! Or a Black Mamba style coaster!

I'm getting excited....

When i went on google maps looking for spots for rides and it seems like below Festa, to the right of Nessie, and of course the drachen fire site.... that might not happen if they are actually planning what has been posted. maybe even a euro replacing EiTA. Oooh if only one day busch would realize what people think about EiTA.
