This is unconfirmed as of now but I'm hearing that the Zambezi spiral lift will have to be completely rebuilt. Apparently the lift is too steep and the heavy trains are going to the buffet line on the lift wheels. They may need to add an extra helix to the lift to make the climb less steep which will make it easier on the wheels.

If this does happen I'll just confirm it by using the tagline #SkylineGonnaSkyline

It's almost certainly due to all of the maintenance issues they've had on the spiral lift, yeah?

I, too, think it could be made into a pretty neat element though. Hopefully it gets some lighting/sound or something and it's not just a weird dark tunnel. More effects like that could really help Zinger IMO—right now it just feels overshadowed by the superior Prowler right next door. Additing some themed elements would really help distinguish it from its neighbor.

I couldn't agree more! Hopefully they do add effects to it. Hopefully this wasn't just a super last minute addition and they don't have the time to do so before opening day.

Here's a POV showing the new covered lift. IMO, it looks terrible – like you're riding through an elongated backyard storage shed.

If it means the ride doesn't have to shut down with the slightest bit of rain (which is why they did this), then its worth it.

I agree with you there but I still think it looks awful.

Also, this kills the unique open-air view going up a spiral lift. This was one of the main features I loved when riding Glissade at BGW.

I feel like a better idea, if it was up to me, would be either enclose the entire tower and the turn around the lift and have some theming in the lift area, or if they wanted to just do the lift, maybe some kind of acrylic or plexiglass so that you will get that open view but it’s still enclosed.

The enclosed lift does take away from the experience by eliminating the view. But the worst thing is that it’s made of metal and will be blazing hot in the summer.

Is this lift hill problematic because its steepness? The original zinger made several more revolutions on its lift Hill.

I had heard that enclosing the entire lift was an option, but they went the cheapest route possible since they've already spent a ton of money trying to keep it running.

Easier said than done as acrylic and plexiglass is crazy expensive. A small 4'x6' sheet of either can cost up to $1000 depending on the thickness. For Zambezi they'd had to make custom ones to fit the curvature of the spiral lift and that would cost even more. Also, it wouldn't necessarily guarantee a clear view as it could easily get dirty and scratched from the elements, which would then lead to extra maintenance/cleaning costs for keeping it clear.
