So I rode X2 last week. Um this ride is deeply demented and I want one on the east coast and that desire only brings me sadness because I know it's not happening. This ride is................I thought I305 and Skyrush were "intense" in the past. This is different. This is like "I hope this weird chest thing doesn't come loose while my lower half appears to be.....um flopping around aggressively whenever I am weightless on this.............contraption.

X2 is the perfect ride to see when you first arrive at Magic Mountain because it represents the extremeness of the park itself with its insane amount of fun coasters to check out. Going into my California trip I had ridden 237 roller coasters total and I knew X2 was going to very much "feel different" from anything I've ever experienced and I still wasn't ready for the moment that seat flipped me to go face down that drop into an somersault at the bottom to go soaring up that massive raven turn. You do NOT feel secure on this coaster like most coasters. That is the key thing to consider when to imagine what the attraction is like. There is obviously the large seat that you're in and the large shoulder harness you strap into. The harness only constricts your torso. There is no restraining force whatsoever on the bottom 60% of your body. This leaves you feeling like you're about to fall out at several moments during this ride. The ride is certainly NOT the smoothest coaster and the seats frequently jostle at various moments. I noticed a correlation where if you board the side facing the road into the park the ride experience is a bit smoother, this also applies to the inside seats of the car versus the outside seats. It's not for everyone and it blows my mind a 48 inch tall child can ride this............thing. I loved it, what a hell of a rush honestly. I was never used to it on my repeat rides it felt insane and unpredictable each of the 6 laps we took during the visit including EPIC night rides. If you want "extreme" this is certainly for you!

Alright I am done praising X2, gonna go browse flights to Japan for no specific reason......

Oh jeez, this one is gonna be interesting because it seemingly could go a number of ways. On one hand, yes that last turn of the ride is rough and could be painful, but on the other hand X2 has had millions of riders since it opened and nobody (to my knowledge) has ever died from riding it, which makes me feel like there has to be some sort of underlying condition that made this poor young man more susceptible to a “catastrophic brain injury” from riding. My gut feeling is that the park will be cleared of wrongdoing, but given the number of variables who really knows?

Also interesting that they waited 3 years to file, I doubt it’s related to the Eejanaika story given the completely different cause of death and likelihood that they follow such incidents, but still worth noting.

I have to agree here. There had to have been something underlying that caused a significant bleed. Unfortunate timing and outcome, but I work in critical care and a lot of times these things are missed until the worst thing ends up happening.

ABC is reporting on it now and of course the public is running with “coasters are unsafe.”

On the lighter side, someone’s about to get a lesson in what a grey out is lol

I am not one to complain, but I do hate how the GP will take a single one off incident like this most recent example on X2 and start to say, "all roller coasters are unsafe" and "Six Flags" or another theme park company doesn't care about safety. This is utter nonsense to me as roller coasters are some of the safest modes of transportation. Being a ride operator at multiple Six Flags parks, I can say US parks take an almost obsessive amount of time to ensure their rides are safe. From the redundant restraint systems, to daily inspections to painstakingly repetitious ride operator trainings. All for the good of our safety and enjoyment (and to cover the park and ride company's asses). The stuff about blacking out on a roller coaster is just ridiculous. In my opinion, a ride that makes me blackout slightly only improves my experience and makes me like the coaster that much more.

Last note: I do not look lightly upon the casualties that have happened as a result of riding roller coasters over the years, as some truly are tragic miss-haps by a park or ride's design. However, in the large majority of cases, it is rider error or a pre-existing condition that gets exacerbated by the ride, to no fault of the park or the roller coaster itself. What do you think those super long disclaimers outside a ride are for? Some people are out to place blame, jump on a finger pointing bandwagon, or just to try to score some cash from a big corporation as a way to deal with the loss.

I'm surprised this individual didn't also cite the restraints as being inadequate on account of the airtime experience. Hopefully the comments can come through on this one; the (likely uninformed) reaction count borders on being infuriating.

Perhaps the best part of it all: "My kids reported the same issue this year." Obviously there are many ways it could have happened, but broadly speaking, why on earth would you allow your kids to go on that ride if you think it's a death trap?

Nitro unsafe? Are you kidding me?

It does sound like X2 can be brutal. However the newspaper article says they're not "redesigning" it for the sake of money. That's because people come to the park wanting to ride it, the majority of whom have ridden it before and know exactly what they're getting into! And the park has spent at least $55M on the ride already, which is around 30 people's lifetime income.

It is possible or likely that some rides on on the edge of reasonable roughness. Some that I have experienced some actual injury on in the past were Anaconda, Kingda Ka (both removed), and Grizzly 2022 and Rebel Yell 2008 (both retracked for the next year).

The GP just does not get it. Nitro is one of he most reliable, glass smooth coasters around! This GP be looking for attention and a cut of some money...

How has uptime been recently? Might have an opportunity to go in about a month, but Viper and X2 are the main reasons I’d go and I’d hate to show up and see either one, let alone both, closed.

If you have the SF mobile app, you can view live wait times on their Flash Pass page. Just open up the page to the park and scroll to the screen to buy Flash Pass. There will be a page with all the operating rides listed with current wait times.

The “Worst best ride” I've ever been on.
I feel you. Normally on rides, I don’t feel out of control - but this one definitely feels like it wants to rip itself apart. Unique and intense.

Screamscape has rumors about refurbing it into “X3” with new trains. I have no idea if this is legit but I could see wanting to spend the money if they want the ride to be around another decade.
