Didn't the park open last year with a capacity of about 1,000 people and make it worth their time? It's hard to believe that they can't average more than that. They don't even have to make money for these two months, they just have to lose less money than they would staying closed.
Bingo, it's pretty amazing how people don't realize this. The idea behind these events aren't necessarily to make a profit immediately, but to limit losses. As far as SEAS is concerned if through being open in Jan/Feb the losses incurred at the park are less than by being closed these events are successful. It's the same principle that made the attendance cap openings possible last year.

Did they bring back the penguins this year? They were over by Festhaus when we went last January and you could get right up on 'em in case you wanted to take one home look real close.
Sadly the only non SEA animals I saw were some owls and hawks from a rescue and rehab group. I am still hold on to the very slim hope that maybe they are rotating different groups through each week.

They seem to be increasing their losses. The additional payroll and operational costs of what they have open can’t be met with small crowds. Especially low spending membership holders.

There's potential new pass sales, plus in-park spending opportunities using a skeleton crew for everything.

Without opening, they still have bills to pay each month - animal care, utilities, maintenance and various support personnel, taxes, etc.

However, that's not to say you're incorrect - I wonder if they expect to lose more doing this in the short term to prove to investors it's a viable opportunity to expand their offerings outside of the main summer season?

At least for Winter Weekemds, I’m guessing not much in park spending. Short days and limited food options don’t generate sales. Mardi Gras has specialty food so that will help.

There is a point where attendance is just regurgitation of the same passholders. These short days are probably not going to bring in many traveling customers, one time ticket sales or many new passholders sales. More has to be going on to encourage those sales IMO.

Man, and I'm sitting here as a non-member, ready and willing to visit in Jan or Feb, but choosing not to because the big rides are closed... because there isn't enough attendance to make it worth staffing them. Kind of a chicken/egg thing, huh?

That 10 bush buck reward is actually driving more in parl sells then you might think. I am betting that it more then paying for itself.

Do we think there's going to be any summary of winter operations within the quarterly financial report call?

This year was going to be difficult and omicron has made it worse. Also an unfortunate return to more traditional winter weather. I hope they don't give up on this. With a few more inside rides and maybe a couple throw back shows or something this could still work, especially with unique food and drink. I think Mardi Gras is definitely the more flushed out event, hopefully winter weekends gets closer to that next year.

Possibly a brief summary of what they are doing. The 4th quarter report comes out in February which means they are compiling the data for it right now so it would be to close to expect any numbers for Winter events to be added. Possibly you might see something in the 1st quarter report but they also have a lot going on between the two and it might very well be over shadowed assuming there is nothing over significant in those numbers.
