I like the appearance of the wooden structures, but I think they stopped building them for safety reasons. That wood is slicker than snot when it gets wet.

I dislike any of them when they are slimy. The grossest I have ever seen was at 6 Flags Seattle. (no longer a 6 Flags)

I find WCUSA's acceptable because they put rubber matting down, so they're not very slick. My problem with wooden towers is that IMO, they are not aesthetically pleasing and typically give off an old, rundown and dirty feel if not maintained well.(again, WCUSA might be an exception to this)

Our massive post covering our private construction tour of Kings Dominion's Soak City is now live! Link

Also, as reiterated in the post, thanks to Nicole, Luke, and Katelyn, Kings Dominion's PR manager, for making this article possible through their various contributions!

Since KDFans took their tour, the inside trough for Baja Bends has been painted, thankfully. Here's what it looked like as of today:

Sorry for the crappy quality, I took this from the Eiffel Tower with my phone.

Some nice pictures of the new KD side complex, "Hurricane Heights" from the contractor that has been building the slides, AquaTech Solutions. The Facebook photo album link is below. Shows photos from the top of the tower; inter-tube boarding platform; ground level photos. (Keep in mind that the KD photos are mixed in with with 2 other projects that AquaTech is building - Wild Water West and a Travel Lodge indoor water park). Based on the photo comments I saw, the KD slide complex is from White Water West in Canada.

Baja Bends looks fantastic.

I should also note that, as of last weekend, Baja Bends and Freestylin' were both testing with water, Lazy Rider was filled and flowing, and Tidal Wave Bay was in the process of being filled. Tornado still has yet to be filled, and same goes for the new attractions. I was unable to get a sufficient view of the progress of the remaining attractions.

As far as work left in the water park, the main plaza (where Surfer Joe's and the original bath houses are) is still ripped up and covered and dirt... so lots of work left there. The Kings Dominion Marketplace is still going up, and there's a giant hole in the middle of the "island" where the mushroom/umbrella water feature used to be. Additionally, I noticed the large "WaterWorks" near Rebel Yell sign is still in place.

For our shrubbery lovers (whomever could that be?! ;)), there is a large circular planter going into the main entry plaza, and another roughly near the former location of Shoot the Curl's tower.

While I was initially underwhelmed by this project when it was announced, I'm now really excited to see everything it has to offer. Two weeks!

Captured webcam screen shot of Hurricane Heights slide tower. The 3 tube slides were running earlier (not in this screen shot). I can't tell if they have turned the water on for the body slides. There has been a good deal of work being done on and just underneath the launch capsules. I assume they need the slides dry for whatever is being done. I like the sun roof on both platform using both big and little pyramids. Notice the multicolored inter-tubes for the attraction. I wonder if they are just for Hurricane Heights or if all singe/double inter-tubes are being replaced throughout Soak City this year?

Looks like all the rope fencing is being added/replaced around the wave pool. Still looks like the big party cabana is still being worked on.

Also, Aquatech Solutions has a great photo of the translucent rings glowing from within on their Facebook site.

KD posted a Youtube POV video of the launch tubes in action yesterday. It looks like the floor is clear and you can see down part of the tube.

I didn't see this posted here yet, so here is our first "point of view" look at the completed Hurricane Heights. It looks amazing!

The lawn in front of Tidal Wave Bay and Hurricane Heights was supposed to get sand volleyball courts. The site is right off the left edge of the webcam so we don't have a clear view, but I haven't seen any action over there. I wonder if it got scrapped?

Everything is looking great! I can't wait to see it and experience it in person (and not just from Drop Tower).
