RE: Major WaterWorks Expansion for 2015

What's the deal with Water Parks and repetitive alliterations as attraction names? Soak City, Hurricane Heights, Tsunami Summit, WaterWorks, Collosal Curl, etc. it's like every waterpark's goal is just to create an alliteration, rather than focusing on theme.

RE: Major WaterWorks Expansion for 2015

Below, is the official press release for Kings Dominion's makeover/expansion of Water Works to Soak City.

A few more tidbits were thrown out (some of this info is on the water park section of the main KD web site. And, no, the water park page has not been updated yet with the new attractions; just the new name)

1) Regular AND Premium Cabana's [from water park web page]

Both style cabana's offer the cabana's in a restricted area; each have their own safe to store valuables; own Table/chairs/lounges. I believe the "room service" dining option will still be offered.

The premium cabana's offer the same perks as the regular ones; but also offer a towel for each guest ("Soak City" Souvenir?); a water bottle for each guest (not sure if this is a "one time" object or a reusable "Soak City" souvenir bottle); a bottle/tube of sunscreen for the group; WiFi and television; an exclusive changing area, so those folks do not have to use the changing facilities that the general public use.

2) Chef Paul will be offering new "restaurant concepts" at the water park. (Nothing said if this is just for cabana renters or for everyone. I assume the latter).

3) Revamped Water Park Entrance (nothing said about a new entrance) and all new landscaping. Again nothing stated on what refurbishment, if anything, was done to the existing attractions.

RE: Major WaterWorks Expansion for 2015

I doubt many of the water slide names will change as they are pretty similar to those renames that Soak City at KI got back in 2012.

I do however hope they at least rename Surf City Splash House to Soak City Splash House...

RE: Major WaterWorks Expansion for 2015

And the winning name is... Hurricane Heights! This is now the official name of the Project 2015 slide tower.

Thanks to everyone who voted in our poll! Hurricane Heights will be the name of the slide towerr w/ 56.5% of the vote

Can I just say, while I don't really care one way or another about the rename of Water Works. (Outside of maybe "Why are you renaming it?") But the name Soak City, just sounds sort of... cheap? Idk, maybe it's just me. Maybe it's the fact that the name now reminds me of Party City.

(Sorry for rebringing this up??? I don't really read the KD forums often.)

Meh, they're both generic names. At least Soak City fits with the Cedar Fair water park brand.

Also, thanks to Zachary for updating the thread title.

I just want to say cross-park branding is a philosophy I loath. It takes away parks' individuality, and really makes them less unique in many ways. Water Works may have been generic, but at least it was something unique and different. I will say Cedar Fair isn't the worst in this case. However, I have not been at all fond of their continuing trend of assimilation(at least branding-wise) throughout their non-Cedar Point parks since the purchase of the ex-Paramount parks.

I'll just point out that WaterWorks was not a unique name for Kings Dominion's water park until recent years. It was also the name of two other Paramount Parks water parks, at Carowinds and Kings Island. So really our WaterWorks was not a unique name either. It was just the one that got left in the dust.

Speaking of Cedar Fair branding, I'd say they do a good job of individualizing their parks, at least since Ouimett arrived. At least we're not "Cedar Fair's Kings Dominion," located just north of "Cedar Fair's Carowinds," as other chains have been guilty of.

Hopefully they will renovate it while they're at it. It's basically been stripped of water buckets, tricks, etc. everything that makes a splash house fun. A decent paint job would be nice too.

^This. I briefly explored the Splash House last year and it was in dismal condition. It was actually kind of sad. Ropes bridges were torn (and consequently closed off), hoses were ripped, and there were places where you could see they literally pried some elements off their posts. There's a lot of unique features in that structure and a little love blown its way could certainly make it a wonderful attraction again.

In case anyone cares.

It seems they're trying go with an all around more colorful scheme around the whole waterpark. I would very much like that, the waterpark in general has always seemed dull.

I'm not trying to pick out problems, because I really do like the new colors for Baja Bends and much prefer them over what they used to be. I just hope, that these colors don't go the way of the other bright colors that were already in the park, faded and not maintained.

Other than that, I really hope the whole waterpark is given a fresh bucket of paint, because I can't really think of an attraction in there that doesn't need it.
