RE: Verbolten

It's all new technology. From this point on its figuring out and understanding how this coaster will operate long term. Soon enough the park will pick up on the ride's tendencies and know how to prevent breakdowns versus fixing them.

There are going to be things that still need to be tweaked that couldn't have been done till the ride was running for a good amount of time.

Patience everyone.

RE: Verbolten

Any word on when they are going to start booking the Verbolten tours? I know it was said any day now but just checking to see if anyone has heard an update. Coming up the week of the 17th and hope the tour is available by then.

There was about 2 hours of downtime today- what exactly is the issue that they're still struggling to work out?

The drop mechanism, I would assume, is EXTREMELY finicky. Imagine the computer processes that are working just to ensure that the train is where it should be, that the track has reconnected, etc. Every single centimeter of the train must be accounted for before the train can enter into that element, before it can work, and before the train can leave.

I have no doubt that if a sensor misfires or counts that the train is an inch off of where it's "supposed" to be, the entire ride would E-stop.

Keep in mind, too, that Busch Gardens has previously worked ONLY with Arrow (whose coasters are simple simple simple) and B&M (who is known industry-wide for near perfect uptime thanks to their refusal to adhere to new technological schemes, instead sticking to tried-and-true trains, lift hills, and friction / magnetic brakes).

The result is that Busch Gardens has three very sensitive elements (two LSM launches and a unique drop element) in one new coaster after years and years of having rides that more or less run themselves without issue. I wrote that review of the ride last month (where you can rate the ride, by the way), but wrote a preview of the ride last fall. In it, I expressed that very concern: that three technological elements in one ride was sure to cause at least a LITTLE bit of downtime a few times a week.

Kings Dominion's Backlot Stunt Coaster has ONLY the launches and still faces bouts of downtime every other day as computers are manually reset, etc.

I can guarantee there will be never be a "solution" because it's not a matter of a single issue that plagues Verbolten. Having a ride that relies so heavily on technology means that it will always be a battle to keep it running. See Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster, or any other number of new-age, advanced rides with innovative elements. The best the park can do is learn the ways to get it back up and working in a timely manner. That will come as they get to "know" the ride and become more familiar with the way it acts and reacts. That learning curve will also help with better train spacing, better station practices, better loading and unloading, etc. that will make the ride experience better with time.

RE: Verbolten

I'm sure the park was aiming for that irony.

So, we have three main topics in this thread now. When is yellow train going into use? When will on ride video work? And what is all this downtime for?

May I make a suggestion, could it be added to the app to where a park goer can report a rides downtime. That way, we can get close to accurate downtime reports. They can give a time of start for downtime, reason if there is one, and estimated length of downtime.

With Verbolten having its downtime, this might help out park goers.

Don't know what phone/app you use, but in the android app for the "wait times" you can enter whatever you want. So if the ride is down, you can report it as such.

I've been keeping closer tabs on what's being sent in, which seems to have promoted other to send in better info on the wait times.

- The park isn't gonna give its guests a reason for downtime, especially if a safety concern is involved. If a technical concern is involved, I'm pretty sure "technical difficulties" is pretty reasonable. The park doesn't need to go into extreme detail with it.
- Since the ride is still fairly new, the amount of downtime is pretty high. That being said, maintenance is still getting used to the ride, so the park can't give an estimated time of when the ride will be down.

I can't speak for yellow train or video. As far as I know, those will be added in a few weeks.

If people only knew how temperamental Nessie's dispatch system is being on an old coaster. If Ops do not dispatch just right then they get blocked and wait for a reset. Adding a train is even worse.

Happens at least twice to me every time I visit the park for trips.

Does anyone start blacking out at one point on the inside? I start seeing spots mid-way in the black forest.

If you are not used to it then yes, you can begin feeling it. My six year old cousin feels it pretty daggum hard.

RE: Verbolten

I also went yesterday, it is one of my favorite rides now but on the Rhine drop the turns were pretty tight and my first time I had my hands up and I was unexpectedly yanked.

RE: Verbolten

I blacked out in the back row on the helix. Hoping the front won't be as bad.
