RE: Verbolten

Probably a bunch like this

RE: Verbolten

Or like the ones in Monster Stomp. That show might need to retire and those lights would no longer be needed. They could save some $$$

RE: Verbolten

There are so many kinds of black lights there's really no point in guessing. They have been adapted to a variety of fixtures and even are LED now.

They are using black lights.... just not the ones you are used to seeing....

sooo.... while we're on the subject, what kind of black lights are they using?

RE: Verbolten

I think all the lights used in the event building, including the black lights, will be DMX. It is the new standard now. However, there are many different makes, models, etc. it is extremely hard to guess and be right. It is like someone saying, I am getting a new car and your trying to guess which type of car. However, I would go far enough to say that the black light will probably be high output. Since they will be used a lot for this ride.

Although, my question wasn't answered earlier, to make the light effects look cool, will the openings around the bottom be closed with doors or something to create a fully dark room??

There will be tunnels around the openings, and I would think something like garage doors to keep the light out.

^ I'm really digging that aerial shot. The park looks great in the dead of winter.

Just throwing something out there. DarKastle opened with tons of special efffects too, but over time some of them were turned off (fireplace effect).

Hopefully V-bolt's effects will last longer than DarKastle's but who knows?

I can't imagine heated blowers would be hard to maintain. Could be another reason why they are not on anymore with the fireplace. Could also be with the fact the ride hasn't had a full rehab until this past winter. It'll be interesting to see how DK is come the 17th.

As for Verbolten's effects. I'm sure as the years go by we'll see a few small effects disappear temporarily or for good. But the building won't end up being a long drawn out tunnel in 10 years. BGW will devote a lot of money making sure the effects inside there stay working and replace something if it happens to break.

One thing to remember is Pompeii is 16 years old and all of its effects still work.

RE: Verbolten

speaking of pompeii, do you think verbolten will have effects like pompeii like falling branches and such or do you think it will all be the 'cardboard cutouts'?

RE: Verbolten

Brand new to the board, but a lifelong VA native until two years ago- first coaster was BBW, followed by Nessie. I put 2" wooden blocks in my shoes when I was in middle school and Alpengeist opened w/ the original 54" requirement so that I could ride it. Thought that should give me some merit with this being my first post.

I will try to stay on topic of this thread, which is Verbolten, and I've noticed many different posts from people that seem to point to BGW as a slipping organization, one that can't get their stuff together lately. I've lived in Denver the past two years, and haven't been to BGW since before BBW was demolished, which is more or less around the time of the Blackstone purchase. Can anybody explain where this sentiment is coming from? I have been so excited about Verbolten, and only when I started reading this thread and saw the word "sacrifice" thrown around in relation to a special effects "mistake" by BGW, and then saw the following comments regarding the late opening of Mach Tower, have I started getting worried about the park. Any thoughts? If this is off topic, by all means move my post somewhere else, but I wanted to get people's perspective on Verbolten and if the "issues" people have talked about is a broader sign of quality decline for the park. I hope not.

RE: Verbolten

I think many of us are just worried that the trend of the last few years will continue. Europe in the Air was awful and Mach Tower was delayed horribly and ended up being, at best, a mediocre attraction. Griffon replaced Le Mans along with all of the theming and trees around it and we lost the Wolf- arguably our best themed coaster ever. We've seen airport lights put into caves with Europe in the Air, rainbow colored paint and a huge cuckoo clock dumped on top of Das Festhaus and glitter thrown all over Ireland during IllumiNights, and much, much more. Verbolten, at least in my mind, will be a huge indicator of were the park is heading in the future. I think they still have the ability to build good attractions- they just haven't over the last few years.

RE: Verbolten

This time a week from now, all of this worrying and debating will be gone when that hard hat tour update comes out.

NessieFan87, think of it this way, they have yet to install the slide down the stairs on a cardboard box ride or the maglite toss yet. All good amusement parks have one of those (only he'll know what i mean if he is who he must be; either that or there are a lot of people with eerily similar backgrounds). I think what swiftman says is definitely true, the cartoony renovation of Oktoberfest and the style of new shows as well as the addition of Sesame Street tore away some of the "trip to Europe" charm. I'm not against family rides or fun for kids at all, I just wish they would have maintained it in the parks theme (like land of dragons and grimm's landing before it). But hey, I'm not a marketing expert, maybe that is where the market is now more so than 20 years ago.

I think the string of corners cut (ie Griffon in regards to theming) have a lot to do with the sale. When the brewery was definitely going to be sold, I think budgets were tightened since the future was unknown. EITA was designed during that time period too. Throw in the poor economy and bad luck (Mach Tower) and I think you have too many things going wrong at once. But hey, Verbolten is (whether it is successful or not) proof that BGW is still trying to have top notch attractions. Also, now that the AB->InBev->Blackstone mystery is solved and the surfacing of resort rumors, I think things will be fine; the park will probably be better than ever in 5-10 years. You may not like everything, and you might yearn for Threadneedle Faire and Hastings, but it will still be BGW; a great time, maybe just not the same as when you were putting blocks in your shoes.
