RE: Verbolten

I think that we will see ads when the employees ride (a day or two before the gp)... Just so that the ride does get "broken in" a little bit, but not so late that most people who see the ads will say "been there, done that"

RE: Verbolten

Why do we always assume the park isn't advertising because of MT?

I mean, you're investing over 54 million dollars into a major attraction and you decide to wait and tell people about it because an entirely different ride had a tough go? No. That is a horrible way to do things from a marketing stand point. As for advertising right now? aside from mentioning it on things mailed out to pass members and brochures at malls I see no need to go all out at the moment. It's January. It's cold. And it's just after the holidays. No one is going to pay much attention to something opening in May at this point. Let March come around and then go crazy with advertising everywhere. Until then it is just a waste of money. Not cold feet.

RE: Verbolten

I don't think it is just MT, it is also too early for ads... But I think MT does play a major part in the reason for waiting... Who knows how many people complained over the fact that MT wasn't open... Busch does NOT want a repeat... I can tell you that for a fact... I saw many groups with tshirts that had "We are going to conquer Mach Tower!" or something along those lines... I am sure they were not happy with Busch

RE: Verbolten

I don't expect to see TV, radio, or billboard ads yet. Just answer one simple question: Where's the website?

Skyrush @ Hersheypark
X-Flight @ Great America
The Swarm @ Thorpe Park
Stinger @ Dorney Park
Goliath @ Six Flags New England
Superman Ultimate Flight @ Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
Apocalypse @ Six Flags America
Wild Eagle @ Dollywood
Leviathan @ Canada's Wonderland
Windseaker @ Kings Dominon
And finally, Verbolten @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg

All of 'em have more content, information, etc. than Verbolten's "website". There's more information about Six Flags transplants and Cedar Fair flat rides than there is about BGW's $54 million coaster, which, I'm pretty sure, is by far the most expensive ride on the that list. I understand that they don't want another PR disaster like Mach Tower but they have to build some hype. Official construction updates? Nope. A construction webcam? Nope. Easy to find ride info? Nope. There's nothing being said about this ride and you know what? It's a shame. What exactly does the park's PR department get paid for? O, wait, I know this one: Putting elves on Alpengeist.

Hahahah, I definitely got a good laugh out of that one! I saw they had the stupid video up there forever and its really bugging me that they have yet to at least put ANY other video up there (but hope for some Verbolten stuff).

RE: Verbolten

verbolten is a special case, it is the most expensive, as well as one of the most unique coasters too. id wouldn't expect any major information to come out than what is already said until after the ride opens, like polar pathway, the info on he site was useless, no one knew what it was until they saw it, and by then the park put a picture up by the first day of christmas town. i think the key here is keep it secret until opening day, and not advertise until march.

RE: Verbolten

^ Comparing Verbolten to Polar Pathway is like comparing Europe in the Air to Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion. They're both... "unique"... but that's were the similarities end. You're saying that a huge coaster should be marketed the same way as a light display. I'm sorry, but no. No one would have visited Christmas Town just to experience Polar Pathway- the park had zero riding on it. The park (well, Blackstone) is in $54 million dollars (lets not forget how much that is!) on Verbolten. If they don't get a good return on their investment, the park is in serious trouble. $54 million. Again, they could have built dueling i305s with that much cash and they still would have had $4 million left over for theming or whatever else they wanted to do with it.

RE: Verbolten

that is not what i meant, even though it might have sounded like it. i meant the actual coaster is the most unique roller coaster built in 2012. as far as marketing goes, i was just comparing the similar marketing styles, but honestly i don't think they should be marketed the same. i think verbolten just doesn't need everyone knowing every little thing that is going to happen before you ride it, leave some surprises.

No one ever said to advertise every little thing that will happen.

And by suprises do you mean the suprise that a new coaster is coming in 2012? I am sure some GP will go on opening day of the coaster and have no clue it was event built if their marketing continues the way it is.

My brother certainly will be, he still knows more about Legoland Billund's new coaster than Verbolten. He's not even that big about Legos. :(

RE: Verbolten

Have him join and start a thread on it.

And with what Billund is doing with that park. You don't have to be a Lego fan to get stoked.

by surprises i meant the secrets that happen on the ride, and they will advertise this coming spring i am sure, but they aren't going to give away the surprises that happen in the event building, just advertise that is really amazing and new.

But that's the thing, he isn't stoked. He just simply knows more about Legoland's coaster, like he knows it actually exists, were as with Verbolten he knows nothing.

RE: Verbolten

Kinda off of the marketing topic, but how the heck is Verbolten going to cost $54 million in the end? Is it the fact that they are going with a smaller company? Drop track? Theming elements? Just wanted it to be made clear.

RE: Verbolten

I think that it's all of that... Mostly the theming... The queue theming alone probably cost a fortune... I think it could have been alot more if they did not reuse the station and footers

RE: Verbolten

Interesting thought: I wonder if Blackstone paid Zierer for the exclusive rights to use the drop track for a certain number of years. It has happened before.
