The construction of Mach Tower was slow...but the ride isn't a waste.

Sorry to get off topic. :)

Exactly. People seem to forget also that we got the ride a lot faster than we were supposed to. Moser wanted to construct the tower in Italy and test there. Busch was atimate about building here and testing here. Had it been Moser's plan it would have still opened around the same time.

RE: Verbolten

Actually, it's the other way around... Bg just wanted too many things (a ride by the end of may, be tested in Italy, and they asked for it too late)... Moser was supposed to test it, but in order to meet busch's aggressive schedule, they decided not to test it... Then Busch was stuck with a bunch of parts that they had no idea what to do with (moser was also supposed to make a manual on how to put it together)... Then all the problems started happening... That's what my source from busch told me... He also said that Busch would not use moser again... Sorry to be off topic

And for the record, my source is not some misled ride op

RE: Verbolten

No. I have word from very high up it is exactly what I said. I questioned the person on the same theory you stated as I had previously heard it from someone in the park as well.

RE: Verbolten

moser was on site during the construction of mach t. and busch did not build it either. moser supervised the erection and assembly. Lockwood and other contractors were the actual assemblers.... moser finally turned the keys over to busch after all of the problems were fixed...(your source is inadequate cpt awesome)

RE: Verbolten

^ You said erection. :p

Anyways, there is a thread for Mach Tower, so let's not discuss it here.

I wanna see a pic of the new drop
I agree. Somebody needs to take a few pictures of the drop and as I stated that the drop will be finished by the end of Christmas Town which is Saturday. Since the weather is being on their side.

Is overtime being worked on this project? Yes, jobs like this are know as "Turn-key" were overtime is bid into the price of the job to cover the costs for overtime.

When rides are installed at any park the ride manufacturer oversees the construction of the ride itself. This includes all testing and commissioning of the ride control systems only. This doesn't apply for in-house done systems designed by the park.

I know this, since I used to work for SFA as a full-time electrician and 23yrs of doing construction and maintenance.

RE: Verbolten

They truly are working very hard and quick. It seems like Zierer saw what happened with Mach Tower and was like, "Okay guys, we really need to give them a great coaster and fast! Can we do it? Yes we can!" I noticed they started to work during the beginning hours of Christmas Town but don't go through the whole day.

If not, someone should go the last day ct is open

I will be there! Hopfully the most if not all of the track will be completed by then. At the speed they are going, I would not be suprised if it was.

RE: Verbolten

well this area is going to be the hardest because its over the water and uses old footers and such. It looks like there approach is to lift over the trees on carefully lower them into place. So its going to take them a little longer to do that area. I wonder were there connecting the last piece?

RE: Verbolten

It looks like they are going from the drop straight to the station. After all, they just started working on the footers by the station near the bridge. So my guess would be the last piece is going in there.

I can't imagine this part of the drop take longer to build just because they have been using the crane to put the tracks into place and have been very successful and quick with it, I still think a day or two after Christmas the drop will be finished and they will be working on finishing up the end of the track. Once CT closes, they will probably start on the themed bridge and other major themed elements.

By the way, the Rhine River level is still low. I think they lower the river water normally. If I remember correctly, during the off season, the river level was pretty low and the floating bridge not in use. But I can understand them wanting to lower it to work on the footers, so they probably lowered it earlier in the year than they usually do.

I was curious to know, how do they lower and raise the river level? Do they have like a giant drain they can plug and unplug like a bath tub?

RE: Verbolten

When I said its going to take longer thats the easy part of that section because its in the open but if you look down the path its in the middle of a lot of trees and they have to make sure the track doesn't hit any branches so it doesn't damage the track. the drop will be finished today no problem (thats if the construction company will be working) But I am saying going through the path is going to be hard as H3// to complete.

For your question they would use pumps and hoses. My question about it is, where do they put the water?

RE: Verbolten

Well I suppose you are right about that. The bottom of the drop and turn isn't exactly out in the open.

As for the river water, I assume to the James River which is just past the Kingsmill golf course, it really doesn't look that far from the Rhine River on Google Maps, but I will assume Google lied to me and it is farther than it appears like rear view mirrors. Images my be farther than they appear :p Either way, I supposed the can use the fire hoses to pump water in and then use pumps to pump it into trucks that can just dump it in the James River, unless they store it in a storage facility somewhere?

EDIT: I am hoping to get pictures of what work they have done sometime just shortly after Christmas as well as sometime around New Years Eve.

RE: Verbolten

For those who are wondering how they control the river levels. The river is really a man-made lake with a big valve in the dam. When they need to lower the water level, they open this valve and when they need raise the level they can bring in water or let nature to the work.

The dam is next to the road where the construction entrance from Rt. 60 is.
