looks like tidal wave is going, this makes coal cracker the only non water park water ride left (unless Hersheypark builds a mack rides splash battle)
From what I understand they cost a lot to run and then they tend not to get long lines.I’m sure of a park like Hersheypark, that land it takes up is really valuable. They can move the Dunkin and Rita’s that’s there, as long as loosing all the ‘accessory’ buildings to TF, and the station opens up not just lots of Boardwalk space for the many slides they could still use, but also they can put in a flat or two across from Fahrenheit to keep the dry park going. Can’t speak to its popularity, but that area of the park has seen a pretty substantial investment over the last decade with Laff Track and Wildcat’s Revenge. Tidal Force was also down for extended periods of time during the summer for the past two seasons, which I’m sure isn’t helping its case at all as a wet ride in the northeast.
There seems to be a bit of a warpath on shoot the chutes rides in America, we’ve seen 11 of them close within the past decade. Granted, most aren’t in HP’s situation where it’s essentially within the waterpark, but I have to assume popularity is dying out with so many of them gone.
It gets popular on hot summer days, but is either closed or has little to no line for the majority of the year. It’s also quite expensive to maintain, since its manufacturer (Hopkins I believe) went defunct a while ago and parts are hard to come by. Throw in the massive amount of space it occupies in a pivotal area of the park and you’ve got yourself an attractive removal. It’s been living on borrowed time for several years now. Can’t speak to its popularity, but that area of the park has seen a pretty substantial investment over the last decade with Laff Track and Wildcat’s Revenge. ok, have you heard of a park named carowinds?, that park used to have a lot of water rides but not anymore because of the water parkIMO it’s ok since the Boardwalk is integrated to the park. If it was a separate gate I’d say they needed more than Coal Cracker.
It would help alleviate crowds to split up the park and allow for better development and growth. It also makes sense from a business standpoint.@warfelg: Hersheypark’s big but I don’t get wanting to split it up into two parks. The only thing I could see them trying to do would be open Chocolatetown weekends year-round, or turn the waterpark into an upcharge - but either would have their own risks.
Huh? As far as I'm aware the waterpark at Carowinds isn't a separate gate.ok, have you heard of a park named carowinds?, that park used to have a lot of water rides but not anymore because of the water park
I guess was until the whole controversial thunder road removal that caused the water park to be a separate gateHuh? As far as I'm aware the waterpark at Carowinds isn't a separate gate.
The only business reason I can see is offering different hours between two parks - the half with the waterpark could open earlier, the other stays open later, etc.It would help alleviate crowds to split up the park and allow for better development and growth. You kinda made the business case as to why it should be split though. No need to do duplicate - the point is different between the two. And if the Boardwalk side could be a shorter season while the "OG" side can be a longer almost full season. The only business reason I can see is offering different hours between two parks - the half with the waterpark could open earlier, the other stays open later, etc.
But I think they would end up having to duplicate a bunch of things to make this work - you’d need another Starbucks, more retail space, etc. ZooAmerica would only be accessible with one park, as well, skewing the numbers.
Also, most of the kiddie rides are in the front half of the park. The back half only really has Red Baron, Granny Bugs, Tiny Tracks, and Pony Carts, and there’s no kiddie coaster like Cocoa Cruiser.
It would also be very unbalanced outside the Summer season when The Boardwalk is closed. Not to mention how Springtime in the Park, Candylane, and Dark Nights would have to be split up to work with such an arrangement- which would probably be a mess and not have consistent offerings across both parks.
I’m sorry, there are a lot of things I want to see Hershey do and also things I want to see them not-so-subtly lift from other resorts (like Dollywood’s festivals or entertainment, or UOR’s hotels like Cabana Bay), but splitting the parks into two isn’t one of them. I don’t see the guest benefit.
Any hints? I didn't see many closed flats on Saturday aside from Howler. Mini Himalaya and Pirate are the two off the top of my head that I could see going (and have been short-listed for removal for a while), but I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary there.Flat removals are likely
