RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

Most of the time, 'updates' to the scenery are a necessary evil in the game of theme parks (for better or for worse). It's just the nature of the game. I'm also not terribly nostalgic - it's just the way I'm wired.

That being said, I'll never forgive them for ripping out that beautiful stage and trying to crowbar in whatever Entwined is.

I don't even want This is Oktoberfest back the way it was. To be honest, it could have used some updating prior to 2011. I just want Entwined gone.

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

Forgot to mention this yesterday... I watched the last showing of Entwined and the first of TIO. Kinda had lunch in-between. The crowd for Oktoberfest was about 1/3 of what watched the "cool people." Is it just bad timing for a dinner crowd or what? Does Mr. G. have a point about attendance? Anyway, the energy in the room was still much higher despite the difference in crowd size. There were even about a dozen people dancing and stomping on top of the tables. I couldn't believe it! No employees tried to usher them off as I expected. Good times!

I was a little disappointed in the crowd size when I attended the 5:30 pm showing on Sunday. In defense of the show it was getting cold by that point and I think most everyone was heading home. It also seem as though most everyone was paying attention to the show when I looked around.

Yes, When I'm in a theme park I usually don't want to eat until 7 because, I usually eat Lunch around 2. I need time to build another appetite for dinner. Now I know everybody doesn't have this exact same schedule, but I think that a lot of people eat this way in a theme park. No offense, but if you were finishing your Lunch in between show times that should say something about why it wasn't packed.

:dodgy: The only reasons that sometimes TIO isn't as busy as Entwined is because,
1) Unfair Advertising
2) A lot of people with little kids leave before dinner
3) The GP doesn't know what they got themselves into when they chose to go see Entwined over TIO.

I went to see TIO for the first time in 2 years this weekend. It was the 6:00 showing. The Festhaus was busy but not packed to capacity. Overall I have to say it was a really good show, and almost everyone in the Festhaus participated in at least one of the activities. There were about 50 kids(I'm not kidding) who participated in the Chicken Dance, and the Festhaus wasn't even close to full! As usual it was a great show. And I hate to say it but I love that they play on the stage that is very "open," and spacious. I think I would be fine with them keeping the 2 shows in there. Oh! When the show was over this school group that was eating behind me said that it was a really good show, which is surprising because that came from teenagers that could care less about the quality of a show. After I left the Festhaus started to fill up for the 7:00 showing. Then I walked by later and saw that it was packed for the 7:00 showing.

I think many of us old-timers are the ones keeping the love going. Would love to see it stay. I am OK with the current arrangement at the Festhaus.

Just an interesting note: This is Oktoberfest wasn't playing today so I'm assuming Monday is TiO's day off.

They did the same thing during spring break. Then tomorrow they will have all TIO showings, I think that they might do that every so often. 1 full day of Entwined, and 1 full day of TIO. Makes sense to do it that way, but I'd be mad if I made plans to watch TIO, and was stuck with Entwined.

That happened to me over spring break. Isn't it just fantastic when you have to break the news to an Oktoberfest ready family?

About when people visit the Festhaus: Speaking specifically about summer time attendance at the park, I (personally) am not a 'scorching hot heat lover'. And VA can be VERY hot in the summer. Therefore, I tend to eat a hearty lunch in the Festhaus. Why? Because it has THE BEST air conditioning in just about the whole park! I even know where the best vents are that blow the cold air directly on me! LOL No joke. Not sure if other people think the same way, but I do like to avoid the afternoon scorching summer sun...and the Festhaus has always been my ticket to some cool. The opposite is true about Christmastown. Nightime in VA can get VERY cold in the winter...hence, I'm typically enjoying the warmth of the Festhaus at night during the winter.

I'm really glad to hear that TIO is back in the Festhaus. I was one of those people who had written a letter to management about them removing the TIO show and the stage (still rather angry about that). It was...erm...scathing? LOL It was so scathing, in fact, that it was the first letter I've ever written to the park that didn't get a personal response! No profanity or anything, but it was lengthy and VERY passionate. That being said, I'm kinda glad that I'm not able to make it to the park this year (again). Unlike others who were able to hold their tears back during the shows return...I probably would've been the one who couldn't hold them back. Meh. Maybe I'm just getting sappy in my old age ;)

Many years ago, the park released a recording of this show on a vinyl record. I've always wanted to get my hands on a copy of it. Does anyone here have the album? Maybe, we could get the park's permission to have a digital download of it on this site. That would be awesome!

That would be amazing if they'd give us permission! I'd love to have a digital copy of that!

Haha, keep dreaming. People have been dying for a download released for the Howl-o-Scream theme song the past two years and if they can't even offer a small song like that, don't expect a whole album. Especially with copyright issues. I mean sure back then it was probably okay, but now it would probably be a lot more difficult.

RE: This is Oktoberfest (1976 to 2011, 2013 to Present)

I recently went last Tuesday to Busch and with no lines anywhere it was a great day. I planned to see TIO, and I couldn't hold back my tears when I heard the band play the same "Under The Double Eagle March" as they marched in. The show was all the same and was just fantastic! The new stage worked well with the show (except the set from entwined) and the Festhaus was packed with people coming for the show! At the very least, I noticed 3/4 of the grand beer hall swaying side to side, raising their (plastic) glasses, clapping, and singing along with the show. I do like that they made it just a bit shorter though. I absolutely cannot imagine the Festhaus without this show! The few years it was gone, I refused to go into the Festhaus, even though it remains my favorite place to be! Perfect show, and the food also improved!
